(North Olmsted, Ohio -WABC, June 24, 2005) — Talk about taking the slow lane. Paul Kramer, who lives in Southern California, hopped on his bicycle on April 12th and started out to his niece's wedding. Seventy-one days, and 4,250 miles later pulled into his brother's driveway, Tuesday.

"This is the end of the trail," said Kramer, 61, removing a rearview mirror attached to his glasses. "I'm a little sweaty."

Kramer hauled about 60 pounds of equipment - a stove, gas bottle, tent, spare inner tubes and bicycle repair tools.

Riding 60 to 65 miles every day, Kramer he arrived ahead of schedule, so he went on to Pittsburgh to visit relatives, then doubled back for Saturday's wedding.

"I took the long way around," he said. "The weather was so nice."

He sometimes stopped at public libraries to send an e-mail message home, but didn't bother carrying a cell phone because there would be no way to charge it.

He says the scenery is worth the effort, and plans to start home on his bike in a few weeks.

"You are part of the environment," he said. "You are with the birds and animals."

Damn hippies.

No, that is pretty cool. That sure beats hopping in a gas guzzling RV and visiting the trailer parks of America.

That'd be fun, but uh... I have to worry about things like going to work... to make money... to pay rent...

See, you don't need to pay rent if you live in a bike.

He's 61. I think he's retired by this point.
