Man trapped inside ATM room slips notes to customers pleading for help

It was a standard job: A contractor in Corpus Christi, Texas, got called in Wednesday to fix a faulty lock in a room connected to a drive-through ATM. He hopped out of his car, walked into the little vault, and set to work. Then—as local NBC affiliate KRISTV reports—the man realized he was stuck.

Somehow, the unidentified contractor got locked inside his strange domain. He'd left his phone in his car, and found himself in the belly of the beast that is a Bank of America ATM room without any way to call for help. Meanwhile, customers were pulling up every once in a while to withdraw cash. The contractor figured they were his only hope, and started slipping notes through the receipt slot begging someone—anyone—to send help.

Corpus Christi Police Department officer Richard Olden told KRISTV most folks who saw the notes figured they were some kind of prank. But one particularly concerned customer decided he should probably call the cops.

The contractor's supervisor eventually showed up, and—unable to get into the room any other way—police had to kick down the door and rescue the man. According to KTRK, he told them he'd been trapped inside for about two hours after something went wrong with the room's electronic lock—the very thing he'd come to fix in the first place.

Doesn't read OPs, especially not his own
Its crazy people thought it was a joke.

Also I'm guessing a ATM room is different and much larger than a ATM machine...cause what I'm imagining would be ridiculous of it is just s normal ATM

It was one of those ATM's built into the side of a building. Guess there's a maintenance room behind those.

First tragedy, then farce.

There is a room behind the back-side of ATMs where you put cash in and get cash out that works very similarly to a bank vault.

He got locked in there.

Yikes that is some scary stuff. I wonder though if he was in a position close enough to feed a note through the receipt dispenser, why did he not also call out to them, cause I am sure they would hear him. Maybe he did though, and it just doesn't talk about it.

Wonder how many people said "Am I on Candid Camera?!?"

And then somebody else says "What's Candid Camera?"

And then they reply, "Oh, see, it's this show where they'd put people in humorous situations and film it."

And then somebody else goes, "what kind of funny situations?"

And then they walk off, gabbing away, hand in hand, new found besties, all the while ATM man is trying to rub old receipts together to make fire.

Strange how he didn't trigger any alarms on purpose. If he managed to enter the ATM room, surely he must've turned off or triggered IR sensors at the minimum. Hell, kick the shit out of the money vault, it must have some kind of alarm connected to it :lol
I'm responsible for the alarms for over 500 ATMs at work on a daily basis. Getting someone's attention should be super easy.

I've been in drive thru ATMs to load them, and let me tell ya, if you have to spend two hours in there...best hope you don't have claustrophobia. Shit is cramped af.
