Mario 128 - Confirmed for Revolution, NOT GameCube - Miyamoto

Searched "mario" on first three pages of threads and found nothing, search feature down so can't really search more extensively.

There is no Mario 128 for GameCube in production anymore... The next Mario game will now appear on the Nintendo Revolution around the time the machine launches... Our new Mario game did begin its life on the GameCube but has been moved to Revolution and will now be a game for our new machine. There will be no Mario 128 for GameCube... We were developing for two platforms in tandem for a while. The decision was taken last year to go with the Revolution game.

There's a shock.

You know they are getting some good shit together for the Rev launch (whenever that will be); Metroid, SSB online, new miyamoto IP and now Mario.

Now if they could only get a good third party game that won't be overshadowed by FOUR NINTENDO GAMES AT LAUNCH.

It'll turn out some game featuring Peach and pom poms will make it to launch and Mario 128 will be delayed as Mario Moonshine takes its place.

Heh, this is true. Four Nintendo launch games, 3 with extremely popular IPs, will scare all the 3rd party teams away!

I'm not a big fan of remakes, but I'd love to see a 3D remake of Super Mario World. Mario 64 was great, but I think SMW had a more balanced, diverse, and enchanting world. If that can be translated into a 3D universe, I'd accept it as a "new" Mario game and be content.

Yeah, Nintendo could really use a new (and true) Mario game for launch this next time around.

I agree. I thought putting the next Mario game, which isn't even done yet, on a system that's being replaced next year was all kinds of stupid. It's all about making a great entrance, not a graceful exit.

If Nintendo had a pair, they'd also move the next Zelda game to the Revolution as well.

I hope Spong is right about this swap.

Well, Miyamoto also said this to IGN:

IGNcube: Can you give us an update on Mario 128?

Shigeru Miyamoto: [Chuckles] I'm just really sorry. I think I've given people the wrong impression with Mario 128. With all the questions I'm getting about this, I really feel like I've done people a disservice. In regards to Mario 128, we're currently doing a lot of Mario experiments back in Kyoto. We are definitely going to have a new Mario for Revolution. Whether or not that's 128 or not, I can't really say. It might be a new Sunshine. We're not sure. We're doing a lot of Mario tests right now for the Revolution.
And here's the full context of the Spong comments:

"There is no Mario 128 for GameCube in production anymore," we were told during our audience. The next Mario game will now appear on the Nintendo Revolution around the time the machine launches." This seemed strange to us, given the Miyamoto-san had gone on record to underline the title as a GameCube offering as recently as November of last year. "Did I really say that?" Miyamoto-san laughed, with the glee the man exudes - no doubt one of the keys to his massive popularity. We explained that that was the case, and asked what the new game comprised. Was it a reworking of existing code. "Yes. Our new Mario game did begin its life on the GameCube but has been moved to Revolution and will now be a game for our new machine. There will be no Mario 128 for GameCube." We asked if the code used had been ported from one platform to another. "Yes, the code has been ported, but of course optimized and radically enhanced." He continued, "We were developing for two platforms in tandem for a while. The decision was taken last year to go with the Revolution game."
I don't know...sounds a little suspicious.

That said however, it is pretty much common sense that Nintendo will have a Mario game at Revolution's launch. If that is true, Revolution's launch is looking pretty good from a 1st party standpoint...

Mario
Super Smash Bros. Online
FF:CC Online
and potentially Metroid Prime 3

You know EA will be there, so if they can get some other third parties involved, they'll be in great shape.

why the hell is this on Spong. I bet it's a mistranslation or just plain made up.
edit: not that I doubt that Mario 128 has been moved to revolution or anything, just mocking the site. :lol

Another flap shows twin solid state storage drives, another flap, the important and ominous-looking one on the front, would not open."There's a clue there," we were told by senior Nintendo staff today as we pawed the hardware, which we could power on and off and fully examine. "That's the Revolution, right there." The collective SPOnG mind boggled.

Wait, so on the back flap, there are two SD slots? What happened to the USB ports?

Mario

Mario: Sequel
Super Smash Bros. Online: Sequel
FF:CC Online: Sequel
and potentially Metroid Prime 3: Sequel

Wow. The same game repackaged with new graphics for $50-$60 bucks. :lol

Yeah um, what the hell is he talking about? Go read any other hands on with it. The side bay has the GC controller and memory cards lots, the front is an SD card slot, and the back has usb ports, power, and av out.

Let me guess, Madden (and all other sports games) are just the same game with an updated roster, right? ;-)

That's pretty much impossible. Nintendo has to know this, so I'd be stunned if they all came out on launch day.

Nintendo spaces out their releases like no one else. They aren't going to launch with 4 potential killer apps like that. I'd expect some second tier franchises like Wave Race though...

According to IGN:
The flap houses the SD slots, the USB ports are on the back. Spong is just being their usual, Spongy selves.

Of course, the usual problem will occcur:
1) If Nintendo puts out four of their own major franchises at launch, 3rd parties will bitch about being stuck in their shadow.

2) If Nintendo spaces out their releases, everyone and their mother screams "DOOMED!" because somehow it's indicitive of their output and dedication to the system slowing.

If you're going to troll, pick an issue that isn't affecting the entire industry. Last I checked, everyone was hyped for the next Killzone, the next Halo, the next PGR, the next Virtua Fighter, and - God help those poor souls - the next Sonic.

Whether or not that's 128 or not, I can't really say.
There IS NO Mario 128. It's just a term for the next "super fun, super selling" Mario game. If The next Mario game sells truckloads, they'll deem that Mario 128. If it doesn't, it'll be considered another Mario Sunshine.

And the rest of the industry isn't doing this, either? Did you miss all the hype for next-gen sequels this E3?

If you're going to troll, you might want to use a better example.
