Mario 128... how soon?

With Mario appearing in so many games lately and NOA's PR people (incl. Reginald) maintaining that Mario 128 is for Gamecube...

anyone have a feeling that 2005 is gonna be a pretty high profile year for the lil' fatty?

They might even use Mario 128's release or announcement in some sort of strategic way...

I hope so anyway. I'm passing on the NBA street thing, but I'm gonna rabidly lap up DDR like its nobodies business... I love the game on other consoles, but this is gonna have the charm for me that DKonga had. In spite of my enthusiasm for the latter game, I really hope Mario returns to platforming and soon. I never realised how much I wanted a new Mario platformer until I started seeing him a lot recently...

E3 will probably tell all, but shall we hazard a few guesses?

To bad for you, NBA street for the cube is great.

I reckon this will be spectacular!!!

I seriously don't believe Mario 128 exists or will be released on the Gamecube. I gave up hope on that last year. Prove me wrong, Nintendo. Prove me wrong.

For the love of god just focus on Mario 128! The milking is just fucking insane, I know it’s not EAD making the diary products but Mario is cheaper then a Bangkok hooker these days!

It'll be like Zelda. Misdirection, smoke, and mirrors all up until the day they unveil it. They've GOT to be getting close now, just because it's been talked about for so long (wasn't it February 2003 when Miyamoto mentioned it in the Playboy interview?) with no unveiling. Usually Nintendo keeps a lid on projects until they're close to done (see DDR With Mario).

Honestly I think 2006 will probably be the year a new mario is released, most likely as a launch title. I think Nintendo knows they have to come out big or they will die with a already launched xenon and PS3 getting all the hype. Mario will give them publicity.

it had better be on gamecube, and it had better be good, or this generation will have been a near-total creative writeoff for nintendo. i'm not holding my breath, though.

We'll see. I mean, Miyamoto did say that they were thinking of moving it to Revolution, but recent statements (Reggie?) seem to be backing away from that and putting it firmly on the GameCube.

It's not coming.

It's the new Mario 64 DD. A pipe dream, some rough sketch in a R & D lab at Nintendo, still talked about, but realistically planned for the next console at some point. The next generation is coming fast, the other Zelda is the de facto NGC title Nintendo can dangle on a stick for 12-18 months to keep the current userbase salivating.

I'd be really surprised if it does come out this year. Overjoyed, as well, but mostly surprised. And even if we do get Mario 128 on the GC, I'm still gonna expect another Mario game in the vein of Mario 64 for the Revolution launch.

But then again, it's not completely unrealistic. I mean, we didn't see the DS until E3 2004, but it was out by Christmas. The same could happen with Mario.

Revolution. Assuming it's a "proper" Mario platformer, Nintendo would be unwise to put it on GC this late in its life if it means delaying the appearance of a "proper" Mario game on their new system.

Then again, Revolution may require something totally different, and they may already have a lot of ideas for Mario on GC that they want to get out there.

But I still don't see another "proper" Mario on GC. I hope I'm wrong.

I would rather have Nintendo make some new franchises for Revolution's launch. Stuff from Retro and/or Nintendo Tokyo. EAD's at their best when they take their sweetass time. I'd like to see them back to delaying games if that means the quality will improve. Super

Mario 128 would be big for Revo launch, but I think Nintendo really wants to make a "cool" system this time around. Mario can't factor in.
