- Deadline: Krysten Ritter Nabs Lead In Marvel’s ‘Jessica Jones’
Marvel is mum as usual, but I hear they have tapped Krysten Ritter for the lead in the company’s straight-to-series drama Jessica Jones. Ritter was one of five actresses for tested for the role. I hear it came down to her and Teresa Palmer, with both doing chemistry reads with The Following‘s Mike Colter, believed to be the choice for male lead Luke Cage.

Spearheaded by Melissa Rosenberg, the 13-episode drama — the second in a four-series Netflix-Marvel deal — centers on Jessica Jones, a superhero suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, which leads to her hanging up her costume and opening her own detective agency, where she ends up helping people and assisting other superheroes.

Ritter comes from a similar comedy background as Chris Pratt, the star of the latest Marvel hit superhero franchise, Guardians Of The Galaxy. While she recently did several comedy pilots and series, including cult ABC show Don’t Trust The B—-, Ritter also had a role on the dark AMC drama Breaking Bad. She is repped by WME, Sanders Armstrong Caserta Management and attorney Dave Feldman.

EDIT:

New thread for the Ritter casting.

Good choices all round.

Krysten Ritter is perfect for JJ and Mike Coulter could make for a decent Cage. Would have preferred Omari Hardwick, but I guess he's busy with Power?

I'll take Ritter I suppose, but I like Colter for Luke.
Agreed. I'm sort of indifferent because I've hated her in everything I've seen her in aside from Breaking Bad and Don't Trust The B---, but Colter. YES. So much yes.

I'm very ok with Ritter. She's in the age bracket, is terrific at drama and she's not your typical Hollywood beauty.

I know nothing about Colter, but he absolutely has the Cage looks.

Papa is pleased.

Krysten Ritter to Star in Marvel's A.K.A. Jessica Jones

Marvel and Netflix are proud to announce that Krysten Ritter will star in "Marvel's A.K.A. Jessica Jones," an all-new 13-episode series premiering on Netflix in 2015 following "Marvel's Daredevil."

Ritter will play Jessica Jones, first introduced in writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Gaydos' classic ALIAS comic series. After a tragic ending to her short-lived Super Hero stint, Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City.

"Krysten brings both the hard edge and the vulnerability the role demands," said Executive Producer/Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg. "We can't wait for fans to see her in action, coming to Netflix in 2015."

"Krysten Ritter has the type of range, spanning the comic to the tragic, that makes for the stuff of the best Marvel heroes," said Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer/Marvel's Head of Television. "As Jessica Jones, Krysten will bring one of the most beloved new characters of the past decade to life in a way we know will delight her longtime fans and introduce her to many more."

...and Agent Carter!

and more SHIELD, of course.

and Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man.

It's almost too much!

It really couldn't be

I wonder if they'll be in Civil War.

It's pretty much why I said the competition (DC in particular) made a mistake in handing Marvel Studios 2015. The flaw (then-currently) was AoS's quality, no longer a flaw.

Marvel has the potential to capture a ridiculous amount of mind share next year.

I was quite critical of AoS but it's really been on fire this season.

I think they'll do brilliantly and all of these new franchises are making Superman, Spiderman and Batman seem almost... outdated, do you think? I'm sure Batman V. Superman will do great but consumers are starting to realise who makes which movies and whilst a general interest in superheroes is great for everyone it may hurt the smaller DC movies.

Feige previously confirmed that the Netflix heroes are unlikely to cross paths or be in the movies despite being part of the same universe.
He also said Loki wasn't in AOU.

So Iron Fist and Luke Cage in the first half of 2016, and The Defenders at the end of 2016?

I'd guess that Defenders won't happen until 2017, with the first four series being released approximately every six months. It could even slip into 2018 if, say, they decide to do a second season of Daredevil or Jessica Jones first.

All depends on the quality of the new franchises. If they are awesome then DC & Sony have less room to getaway with a terrible film staring characters that they have had on the big screen for decade/s. Fox is in the best position behind Marvel imo, Even if/when F4 sucks and is a financial failure I doubt it will hurt the X-Man brand much, since general audiences don't really give a fuck about that team. If it fails they will ghost it and pretend it never happen anyway, it was only made to secure the rights so it did its job.

Still... they probably couldn't take another X-3, XWO.

So given the new info, could we be looking at...

Spring 2015 = Daredevil
Fall 2015 = Jessica Jones
Spring 2016 = Luke Cage
Fall 2016 = Iron Fist
Spring 2017 = Defenders

Doctor Strange opens in Nov 2016, so if he's going to be putting the Defenders together and have a cameo, it makes sense to have that after his movie introduces him.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Heroes for Hire have a role in the Strange movie. As hired muscle to either bodyguard or put in some investigative legwork.

I have been wondering who would take the Parker role in JJs origin. If they made it Matt it would tie together the four series very nicely.

Do we know yet, if Killgrave aka The Purple Man is involved in the Daredevil or the Jessica Jones series?

I just finished the Alias comic, wich features Jessica as the main protagonist and I loved his appearence. And since he has history with booth (and with Luke Cage and Iron Fist...) , I was curious, if he would appear.

He could be the main villain for the Defenders show.
