I am not sure if I should read some Alias. On one hand I know next to nothing about the character and thus I can go in blind without any preconceptions and not have any major events spoiled for me, on the other hand I get a better understanding of the character. It's like watching guardians of the galaxy with the non comic book need audience where i was like who the fuck are these guys?
You should read it. It's very, very good, and the show will be based off of it in a way GOTG wasn't- it was based off the concept and characcters, the plot was all new.

It's weird cause she isn't drawn to look attractive but you have people commenting on how hot she is here and there.

Yeah, this always bugged me a little, but in her latest incarnations she's been considerably better looking. Not exactly a bombshell, but she looks like that hot-ish girl next door.

Still, I would have liked her TV counterpart to look a little more weary and stern looking. JJ has gone through some shit.

She isn't drawn very attractive in the Alias books, but pretty much every other artist draws her like she's a model.

i always thought that was part of Alias' charm - especially considering the contrast between how Jessica is drawn and how Jewel is drawn.

regardless, i am very optimistic about Ritter. i'm sure she'll nail the important part - her characterization.

God damn Daredevil sounds amazing:

The footage kicks off with Karen page alone in her apartment on a dark rainy night. She's walking through the apartment trying to find a hidden knife (possibly a tape recorder, it was dark), she finds it in a vent.

Unfortunately, she has an intruder in her apartment who quickly disarms her. As soon as he does so Daredevil shows up. Daredevil is wearing the all black suit that we’ve all come to love.

The two tussle, and end up both jumping out of a window and landing pretty badly on the concrete. The sound focuses in on the knife blade clanging on the floor and the rain hitting the pavement. Here we get a real sense of how Daredevil hears the world around him.

After Daredevil hit the ground, we get a great flashback scene that features a young Matt Murdock & his father. Jack Murdock walks into the kitchen where Matt is sitting and grabs something from the freezer. Matt takes his hands and feels his fathers wounds, and then his father tells him, “Come on Matty. Get to work.” Then we cut back to present day Daredevil fighting in the rain, blood dripping from his mouth.

You're looking at the first and only picture released and have no idea what th context is. I don't understand this rush to try to guess everything in a show/movie as soon as possible, with as little information as possible.

He didn't try to guess anything. He just provided impressions, which are difficult not to have after one has been subjected to new stimuli. I personally can't look at a picture and not have thoughts about it; maybe you're different. ;)

Shitty condescension aside, his "impressions" made it sound like he could tell how she would look for the duration of the show based on this single picture. He has no idea which point in the story this scene is taking place or if this picture is even taken during a scene or just while she's walking around the set but he is already complaining about her not looking weary or stern enough.

The Alias Production thread is starting early next week. I hope I can make it until Monday, but maybe it will take until tuesday.

Oh woah, I know nothing about Jessica Jones folks.

Is Jessica Jones' comics called Alias?

So much for destiny.

I would make a production thread, if thats ok?

If you want, I would volunteer for all remaining Netflix Production Threads...

You are The One.

I really dig that.

Guys, I figured out the best way to do a Moon Knight series:

Anthology.

Every episode, it's a new famous director, it's a one-off story involving weird crime and Moon Knight and stuff. Think Masters of Horror or Twilight Zone but with Marc Spector and Khonshu. Like, all twisted and weird morality plays that examine the nature of madness and violence. Every episode feels stylistically different, representing his varying mood shifts and personalities and the influence of Khonshu and the Moon.

And just have it be the loosest of character arcs. Marc's sanity is always in question. Everything feels hallucinatory and frenetic, more Hannibal-esque in terms of sound and art design.

Fuck, a Bryan Fuller-led Moon Knight series would be the bees knees though.

Yeah, I want a Bryan Fuller-led Moon Knight semi-anthology hallucinatory nightmare insane series.

Please Marvel. Give it to me.

Oh heck yeah. First they got the cinematographer for Fargo to do Daredevil, and now they have the cinematographer for Person of Interest doing AKA Jessica Jones.

Manuel Billeter (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1193850/#cinematographer)

Person of Interest is a fantastic show and it has great cinematography and action. I am loving the decisions they're making with the Netflix shows!
Hell yeah. My concerns about Netflix's part of the MCU being as crummy looking as SHIELD have been quashed. It looks like they are aiming much higher with the street properties.

Where's that gif of the two story shootout from the start of Season 4? Person of Interest looks great for a network show.

They aren't holding back, I see. Makes me more excited for Jessica Jones.

Speaking of, given that production has started for Jessica Jones, I'm expecting a Late 2015 release.

I mean it will probably have more adult content than the films, but if you say shit on Television i'm pretty sure you are automatically TV-MA, and Netflix will probably just follow those "rules". They say shit in the Marvel movies even.

Shit only nets you a TV-14 if you don't have any other objectionable content. Suits, for instance, is TV-14 because they say shit and just do other lawyer stuff.

That shit looks goofy. I'm sure the show surrounding it, and the context leading up to, and out of that gif, makes that scene completely understandable and even enjoyable.

But as an out of context 4 second looping gif, it looks fuckin doofy as hell.

Now imagine whenever you try to compliment this show, someone appears out of nowhere and posts that gif, and the entire thread devolves into making fun of how silly that "action" looks.

Congratulations. You're now Christopher Nolan fans.

lol what is this goofy shit lol

Wow that's even worse then the infamous Arrow wall flip.
I don't watch PoI, so I agree with you all that the choreography there is goofy as shit. But the cinematography - color and framing especially - is great for a TV show, and that's what matters. JJ has the cinematographer, not the action choreographer.

I get why you say it looks goofy, but it's actually awesome in the show.

But we're talking cinematography here. Here are two pieces on the cinematography/visual style of the show. It bodes well for AKA.

Interview with Manuel Billeter: https://mattmulcahey.wordpress.com/...-of-interest-cinematographer-manuel-billeter/

The Quiet Visual Innovation of Person of Interest

And some examples:

Lots of use of shadow, the action is VERY clear and crisp, and there's a much more cinematic/film look to the show than any other procedural show I've seen. It's not showy and dreamlike like Hannibal, but POI's visual style/cinematography is pretty unique in the television landscape and it's all really excellently done. For a noir like Jessica Jones, this is a perfect match.

You’ve now shot almost 20 episodes of Person of Interest over the last three years. How would you describe the show’s aesthetic?

The creator of the show (Jonathan Nolan) really comes from a film background. He always stressed the fact that he really wanted the show to look cinematic. He wasn’t interested in an easy and convenient TV look. He really wanted to push the cinematic look as much as possible within the production restrictions that we have on network TV. Another thing that he really liked is darkness. He likes it dark, he likes his blacks, and so do I, so it wasn’t really a stretch at all for me to fulfill his desires because his aesthetic is actually very close to mine. The catchword that I hear all the time is, ‘Make it noir.’

If I get time, I'll go through some past episodes and pull out some examples. I know POI-GAF has talked about the cinematography a few times.

Great post, NTGYK. I'm consistently impressed with the cinematography, choreography and direction on POI. I'd say the same for Agent Carter and The Blacklist as well. My only issue with POI at times is that it gets a bit *too* dark in some scenes on occasion (on my monitor at least, watching the show on CBS.com) and at that point it can become hard to see what's going on. (Incidentally, the most recent Blacklist episodes have really taken the show to newly cinematic heights. No surprise there since Joe Carnahan directed a recent ep.)

It would look cool if they weren't just casually shooting like that. There's no tension.

Visually it's a cool scene though and above anything SHIELD or Carter have even attempted.

The showrunner has already said not to expect R-rated level violence, and no nudity. We already know the show was going to be gritty and more brutal than the "average" Marvel show. So.... it's probably a rating for tone more than anything else.

He said there would be no gratuitous violence or nudity, I believe. That doesn't rule out nudity as a whole, and well, if you've seen the trailer, I'd count that ending scene as pretty damn violent.
DareDevil on the ground, in the rain bleeding buckets from the mouth.

There hasn't been any nudity in any Marvel properties so far. Violence is much more socially acceptable in America than nudity. There won't be any nudity.

I am curious, if they refer to the famous anal sex scene in any way *g*

i'm very interested in seeing how they adapt all of Alias. a lot of it will have to be adapted for a lot of reasons...

IIRC it's been clarified by Bendis years ago that that wasn't quite what the scene referred to.

huh, really? that's a shame. thought it was a pretty provocative and interesting way to open the book.
