Mary and the Witch’s Flower, the highly anticipated debut feature from Japan’s Studio Ponoc will be landing in North American theatres this winter thanks to a deal with GKIDS.

The story of Mary and the Witch’s Flower centers on an ordinary young girl named Mary who discovers a flower that grants magical powers but only for one night.

As she is whisked into an exciting new world beyond belief, she must learn to stay true to herself. The film is based on Mary Stewart’s 1971 children’s book The Little Broomstick with a script by Riko Sakaguchi.

I know that Studio Ponoc has some animators from Ghibli, but that art style is basically identical.

Naming style too! I've never heard of this movie until now, clicked on it thinking "That sounds like one of those films by them Totoro people"

Good to know that GKIDS will be distributing out some decent animated features for Oscar consideration this year (this along with The Breadwinner) seeing how everyone else took the year off. (I'm not expecting much out of Pixar's Coco... would love to be proven wrong, though.)
