The Senate's vote to proceed to debate on Republicans' healthcare bill will be delayed due to Sen. John McCain's health issues, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said in a statement late on Saturday.

McCain's office announced he will be recovering from surgery next week in Arizona after having a blood clot removed from above his left eye.

"While John is recovering, the Senate will continue our work on legislative items and nominations, and will defer consideration of the Better Care Act," McConnell said in a statement.

Its gonna be hilarious when Obamacare remains the law of the land, 8yrs of running on it and they can't touch it

they could still go all the way with this thing, not sure more time is good for any of us but pls call your senators every day folks

What a stupid name for a bill. The Better Care Act. That's the kind of name a kid would come up with.

we're lucky its not the freedom for free markets act

Go screw yourself Turtle.

I doubt they had the votes either way. This is just a convenient excuse to push the vote back again.

Wow they're actually trying to call it the better care act

Anyway the irony of this maybe not passing due to one of the gop recovering from surgery due to free healthcare is too good

On one hand, these incompetent, divided cretins can't pass their harmful agenda despite being completely in power. On the other hand, the country is being lead by incompetent cretins. Even the good news is depressing these days.

They're definitely not at 50. McCain being down takes them to 49 (probably). If the vote can't happen RIGHT after the CBO score drops you'll probably see additional defections as pressure mounts.

Last I read, which was this morning, they weren't going to bother waiting for a CBO score instead opting for a more favorable review by the hack Occupying the HHS

Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) said that the chamber would potentially use information from the Trump administration to evaluate some of the bill if it takes CBO too long, particularly the Cruz amendment. That could provide fresh ammunition to Democrats' argument that Republicans are bypassing long-standing Senate norms to muscle through their repeal bill.

“His amendment probably will take the Congressional Budget Office a while to score. We’ll probably get feedback from HHS,” Thune said. “We’ll see what they come back with.”

If McCain being out takes them down to 49, doesn't mean they're at 50?

Heller hasn't firmly stated a position. His governor, Brian Sandoval of NV, still opposes the bill, so we can infer that Heller at the very least hasn't decided.

I know Heller's still wavering, I just didn't understand how he got his count.

I haven't been following today, have Murkowski/Portman/Hoeven/Capito suddenly come out in support of the bill?

Pretty ironic some old fuck having health issues is delaying the vote on a bill which will fuck over old people with health issues.

I don't think they have the votes yet even with McCain but I wouldn't doubt this piece of shit getting there in the next few weeks. The GOP is desperate to kill poor people

Didn't Trump just tweet like today that the Senate was going to vote on it next week and save us from Obamacare?

Lol

The WH hasn't really been involved with the Senate bill much at all. It's been a very different situation from all the arm-twisting they did to get the House bill passed.

If only the name Obamacare wasn't a thing, maybe then they wouldn't hate it so much.

It's not the official name. The GOP specifically branded it as such so it would forever be hated by party. Unfortunately for them Obama actually went out extremely well liked so even saying they are getting rid of obamacare can't raise the approval of this bill much
