Mechanical Pong

Thought some of you would find this interesting. A group of people built a mechanical version of Pong that is operated by a system of pulleys and an electric motor. The paddles are controlled by two joysticks (one for each player) and features instantaneous response time and fairly accurate game physics with sound effects.

Its funny that there is some Stewart Brand stuff at the end of the article. His book, "How Buildings Learn" is fantastic. Read it if you have an interest in the built environment.
 
that's the coolest thing i've seen in ages. i particularly like that it's run by a relay computer. and that the sound effects are produced by actual percussion on hollow wooden blocks. oh hell, i like everything about it.
