Oh snapsters.
You know what's even more amazing? The DSL will most likely pass the DS by the end of the year.

BTW, DSL MC YTD (4,196,826) has already passed the entire 2005 DS MC sales (4,151,356).

Fuzzy,

I seem to be slightly off from you on the PS2, PSP, and GBM. I hate those Famitsu charts because the numbers are difficult to decipher sometimes (as you pointed out earlier).

These are my last several weeks for each system - would you mind letting me know where the difference is from your numbers?

I went through a similar thing with Rock_Man over PM's and we fixed some of our Famitsu numbers by checking some Japanese sites. I suggest you PM him if you have any other questions. I edited in our differences.

Fuzzy,

Your DS+DSL total seems to still be using 176,955 instead of 176,855.
Oops, forgot to edit that one also. Fixed in my other post.

I wonder how similar FFIIIds sales are to the original...

If ioi ever returns we should find out. He just bought a massive load of Famitsu Weeklies going back to 1990. It'd be really cool to compare...
Were there shipment shortages?
Did the game hav legs?
How quickly did games sell back then?
Was an initial sell-thru of 500k possible back then?

FFIII (FC) was released right before G-week 1990 (late-April) and eventually reached sales of 1.41m over its lifetime.

Oh ioi, where are you man?

LTD's using each tracker's LTD (F=3/26, MC=4/2) + weeklies since then.

Famitsu (through August 27th)
PS2 - 19,764,416
GBA - 8,978,795 (no longer tracked)
DS - 6,420,097
GBASP - 5,876,582
GCN - 3,990,382
DSL - 3,987,109 (*using 176,855 for the last week)
PSP - 3,898,786
GBM - 524,377
Xbox - 472,991 (no longer tracked)
Xbox 360 - 157,607

Finally we have the same numbers, but I suggest we use these instead:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=4188048&postcount=460

PSP - 3,898,516
GBA - 8,978,455
XB - 472,992
The rest is correct.

I've found the error in PSP data.
Week ending April 16 is 29,586, not 29,856.
The GBA and XB numbers we had are originally from The Magic Box and that's why they were off. :)

DS sells 10 times more than PS2 in a single week...despite ongoing shortages. DS could easily sell 1m a month if they had the supplies. I hope Nintendo are stockpiling millions of DS for Pokebomb and Christmas.

Is the black DS sales included in the 228K NDS sales ? It looks like the supply is still constrained, since I was thinking that maybe it can reach 300K+ this week.

look at me, taking the fact that DSL achieve 200K+ sales in a week as underachievement. One can really, really get used to 100K+ sales / week from NDS in Japan. I hope US can start getting higher monthly data very soon.

elostyle

Never forget! I'm Dumb!
Given that all DS lite colors are sold out just about everywhere in Japan, I would strongly suspect that there are shortages.

First day sales (unconfirmed)
Platform Title Approx. Sales Approx. Digestibility
PSP Tales of Phantasia FVE ~50.000 (55%)
PSP Taiko no Tatsujin Portable 2 ~8.000 (37%)
PSP Capcom Classics Collection ~4.500 (34%)
DS Unou no Tatsujin: Hirameki Kosodate My Angel ~3.800 (13% )

No other numbers that I see...

Awesome ToP performance...after GBA 135k for the 3rd version of the game...I didn't expect the 4th one to do did this...although Namco thought so with ~90k as first shipment. I don't expect legs so 100k at most.

Makes you wonder just how many DSs they're stockpiling for Christmas. Cart-creation must be at maximum too - they've got to make as many Pokemon, Yoshi's Island 2, Mario Vs. Donkey Kong 2, FFIII, DQJ, Brain Age, NSMB carts as possible.

Would the only 550k for the FFIII, with no second week restock, be due to this?

What is this? I just looked it up on Play-Asia with no description and I'm intrigued.

the DS is going to have the best Christmas in gaming history. While the DSL hardware will obviously sell out no matter how many they get out there, the software sales are going to be staggering. Amazing to see this kind of production strain (like Japan being capable of consuming all the DSL produced for the world market) so long after launch

The no-restock has to be due to cart manufacturing difficulties; I'm certain we would've seen some sort of shipment, even if it was only 50k or so, otherwise.

I think if we went back to a year and a half ago and told GAF-of-the-past that by Christmas 2006 that not only the DS but its software would become so popular that Nintendo literally cannot make enough we would be laughed at A LOT.

How big is the FFIII cart anyhow? Anyone got any ideas? I mean, there are a variety of 3DM sizes + Eeprom sizes, I'd imaging the game would use something like a 128MB 3DM + 250KB EEPROM cart, which would technically be the biggest cart used [The Rub Rabbits!! currently had a 128MB 3DM + 8KB EEPROM]. Pokemon, being the rediculously minimalistic looking game it is, will probably be a 32MB 3DM + 250KB EEPROM game, like Animal Crossing.

It's not like a PSP UMD where each is exactly the same. This shit gets complicated!

The usual

GBASP at 26 weeks: 1.44M
DSL at 26 weeks: 4.03M
Time for GBASP to reach 4.03M: 80 weeks

DSL is now more than a year ahead of GBASP

"GBA after SP" at 26 weeks: 382K
"DS after DSL" at 26 weeks: 478K
Time for "GBA after SP" to reach 478K: 36 weeks

DS at 26 weeks: 2.40M
PSP at 26 weeks: 1.40M
GBM at 26 weeks: 459K

Graphically

Going merely by probability, it's more likely we play Pokémon than pretty much any other portable series.

True. By percentage, only May 22 of this year has been better; New Super Mario Bros. week. That week DSL had 82.1% of all hardware sales, and DS had 1.2%. This week they're 80.0% and 0.1%, respectively.

Actually, the week of July 17 was 78.6% DSL and 1.9% DS, which would also be better for the DS overall, if not the Lite.

I think the idea that 18 months after launch ANY console could undergo 12 months of hardware shortages, sell more on some summer weeks in Japan than over an entire month in the US, and even suffer from software cart shortages would have been laughable.

I wonder how often overall cart shortages happened during the Famicom days.

As huge as the NES was, I would think Nintendo would have more of a stranglehold on production of carts. Most didn't have saves, so theres one less component to make. They were ready for the next Mario - I think Nintendo is still recovering from just how god damn huge a sucess Brain Training and Animal Crossing were last Christmas, and I doubt even they expected NSMB to sell as drastically as it did.

I thought as much. Again, they seriously need to expand their DS related manufacturing facilities.

On an OT note, love your Colbert avatar. That guy knows how to elicit a laugh by way of facial expression. He may have even more of a gift for that than even his fellow former Daily Show colleague Steve Carell.

does anyone know roughly (to the nearest 100k for all known weeks of sales) how many units of DS software Nintendo alone have shifted this year?

Yeah more numbers please (i know it will be soon)

Also I hope that FF3 will outsell last week which means that it will have legs.

For those really desperate for some early sales, I posted this in a new thread last Sunday:

Early Japanese SW Estimates 9/4~9/10 (Comgnet)

Comgnet only surveys a few stores & recieves about 1/200th-1/700th of all sales in Japan so THESE ARE NOT EXACT- JUST ROUGH ESTIMATES:

Square2005, your figures are off.
FFIII has passed 600,000.
It looks like it had a massive restock last week actually, and is heading towards 800k this week.
