I will have to say PS5 launch was kind of underwhelming. Hardware is fine given it's clearly out of stock, but I expected more software to sell at least... especially Demon Souls & Miles Morales (Both with 10-20% attach rate thus far from the super hardcore fans??).

Ty for posting
Sure thing

This week number is going to be juicy.

Momotaro Dentetsu and Age of Calamity.
Yeh next week should be good.

Sakuna will have around 90% drop on the Switch, basically the initial shipment of around 35K sold out and Marvelous hasn't restocked - resell prices are currently close to the equivalent of $100. So next week PS4 version will have more sales and catch up to the Switch. However Sakuna's demand has been redirected to the eShop where it has remained in the Top 3 behind Momotaro which is set to become the biggest 3rd Party launch on the system in Japan and Age of Calamity which is going to be Koei's biggest launch since the PS3 days.
With great reception in Asia and a decent performance in the West, pretty good chance Marvelous announces 1 million sold WW by the end of the year.

Software sales seem really slow in the UK too, Demon's Souls didn't crack the Top 10 unless I'm mistaken.

Big disapointment. Barely outsold Switch. PS4 and Switch both did 300K+. Big loss of momentum especially since Switch is going to dominate the holiday's.

PS5 Did steal from the switch if you look YOY so win for Sony. But I expect Switch to go into overdrive until Feb.

The Switch YoY decline isn't from the PS5 launch. This week last year Pokémon Sword and Shield came out.

Ok that makes sense. I thought PS5 managed to steal some sales but Pokemon launch would explain why switch was at 180K this week last year.

Almost beating PS5 on launch though is not a good look for PS5 and I expect Switch to go up and up over the next 6 weeks or so with the holidays up coming.

I am really surprised by AC beating Spider Man and Demon's Souls.
Spiderman and Demon's souls were outsold by an indie game made by 2 people during their free times.

Not only that, both Spiderman and Demon's Souls stocks are widely available with low sell through number around 0-20% for DeS and 20-40% for Spiderman

For the rest of 2020 I expect PS5 to sell whatever it ships,I don't think they'll be enough to meet demand. Sales will be low in 2021 until Gran Turismo comes out.

Gran Turismo isn't going to move a lot of PS5 in Japan... it's a declining IP in a declining genre no longer relevant to the Japanese audience.

Gran Turismo sales in Japan:
GT 5: Prologue (2007) - 533.752
GT 5 (2010) - 731.164
GT 6 (2013) - 367.267
GT 7 (2017) - 269.348

sales will just be low in 2021, perhaps the only game that can change this is Demon Slayer since the IP is currently breaking all types of records. Although the Demon Slayer game is currently only announced for the PS4. I have my doubts about Final Fantasy XVI launching during the calendar 2021.

With most japanese publishers seemingly being happy to just release PS4/Switch multiplat games next year Sony is unlikely to sell more than 1 million hardware combined across the PS4/PS5. So we will be looking at a sub 2 million userbase for the PS5 by the end of 2021, giving Switch a 10:1 advantage over the PS5 in terms of audience. Compound this with a wider range of 3rd Party exclusives like Momotaro, Age of Calamity, Olive Town, Monster Hunter Rise, Rune Factory 5, Bravely Default 2, Monster Hunter Stories 2 etc. and you are looking at a very unfavorable environment for the PS5 in Japan. Japanese 3rd Parties are notoriously slow to adapt to new systems, so the PS5 games they are working on are unlikely to actually launch until 2022 and by that time Switch will be the 2nd best selling system in Japan of all time while the PS5 will be sub 3 million.

I'd say the low PS5 numbers are due to low supply. I have a hard time believing that Sony supplied say 300k this time as well but only sold 50% of it.

It is completely sold out. Some electronics shops I've been to aren't even advertising its existence right now.

Square Enix needs to wake up already and take a look at a massive numbers of Nintendo Switch userbase in Japan.

16M hardware in Japan and likely to blow past 3DS number soon but still no confirmation of exclusive Dragon Quest game or Final fantasy game from them. At the very least, Capcom will release Monster Hunter Rise and MHS2 in 2021 despite early lukewarm support by them.

Square Enix has an original IP Octopath Travellers that managed to sell 2 million units on Nintendo Switch alone and their answer is bravely fucking default 2 and not Dragon Quest 12 or FF 6 Remake.

🥴

so In japan there’s 100-150 tickets for 1 PlayStation 5 (not counting digital)... if they had the stock the numbers would easily achieve 500k +, crazy.
good job Sony

Square Enix Physical Sales on the Switch in Japan thus far are roughly 1.8M, so even without any titles this holiday season they will probably hit 2M. This is across the 25 titles they've launched so far. With their Top Selling game being DQXIS at around 600K. Switch has actually already received more titles than the 3DS, which only had 18 titles from Square the difference is that on the 3DS DQXI alone sold over 1.7M. Outside of Bravely Default 2 & The World Ends with You I'm expecting at least one DQ related title next year DQXII being the highest profile option but DQB3, DQH3 or a new Monsters game being more likely.

The good thing for Square is their catalog sales, as these AA and Ports they are releasing continue to find an audience. Honestly if they didn't have their massively profitable Switch and Mobile gaming divisions they would have been in trouble after Avengers bombed.

You're right about the numbers of AA releases on Switch but the lack of heavy hitter confirmation from them is very strange. SQE should've learned by now after not taking advantage of big userbase with active users engagement as their decision to release DQ11 3DS at the end of 3DS life cycle end up in a disappointment.

I don't disagree with anything said here. Gran Turismo won't give too much of a boost but I expect it's launch week to have the highest PS5 sales of any non-holiday week in H1 2021.

To be fair to SE the first ever game revealed for Switch (back when it was NX) was DQXI. Switch will be home to all DQ games going forward, they just haven't been announced/revealed yet.

For me the most glaring omission from SE is the lack of any Tomb Raider or Kingdom Hearts (although the later has got that rhythm game recently).
