Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction -- The Thread

Cheat Crate!
Damnit, maybe I shouldn't have let 20,000+ South koreans bite it while I was tooling around blowing shit up ;(

Some of the Spade missions are tough. Then again I'm usually a little airstrike-happy instead of complete-the-objective happy. Kinda dissapointed with the Fuel-Air bomb- Cruise Missile Strikes rule the roost.

Where's the Abrams, Apache, and Bradley IFV? 26 of 29 vehicles unlocked and I still have none of them.

Then, of course, I cruise missiled the son of a bitch, clubbed him over the head, and took him in.

"Cheat code enabled"

!!

I went through the cheats to see which one it could be--and apparently, I could now buy anything in the store. Cheat Crate!
What the fuck!?! I beat down the Ace of diamonds with like only like, 4,500 casualties and all they gave me was a new character outfit for Nilsson. I'd much rather have that cheat crate. :(

I don't know about those cheats but if you register your game at lucasarts they give you a cheat code. The code they gave me was to have all items available in the store. Would be interesting to know if they gave seperate cheat codes for users or if they just give out one default code. I registered the Xbox version, btw.

Finished off the Ace of Diamonds mission--they blew the truck as I was making my escape, killed the Ace.

So I said "fuck it" and just took the picture and went on with my life.

King of Diamonds mission was funny, though--I went in in a baggage cart, destroyed everything, took the King, then left in the baggage cart. If I were the NK, I'd be pissed.

I'm on the last set of cards.

I had just finished a brutal card extraction. I was in an NK Gunship chopper and the target was protected by anti-aircraft weaponry out the ying-yang. I cleared everything out and called in the extraction but my gunship got blown to bits. I worked my way down the hill and considered appropriating a passing car but I thought what the heck and ordered a street racer sports car from the mafia. I zipped back to the mash unit and saved and had planned to call it a night. I had passed over a card's location and decided to drive over there to just verify it was where I thought I had seen it. I get over there and the North Koreans are ignoring me since I'm disguised as a civilian. I pull up over by the card, hop out, subdue her, throw her in the passenger side, and peel out. The NK try to react but I'm just too fast and I'm gone. It was almost a James Bond-like moment.

That's awesome... fucking SAM's are such a pain in the ass. I don't know how many times I have fallen to my death because my chopper was fragged by a surface-to-air missile.

The final mission with Song is just brutal. How the hell do you evade/destroy that many tanks and choppers...argh. For those who've beaten it, I'd sure like to know how you managed it.

Hah, some of the hearts are stupid stupid people. One of them was in an area protected by like 6 tanks and nothign else, damn tanks didn't even have any gunners in them. So I 'appropriated' a NK jeep drove in and around a bunker so I can survey the place. Stupid idiot was standing in a corner in where none of the tanks could see him. So I get out creep up subdue him, pick him up carry him back to the jeep and drive out. Not one shot fired and all the protection had no clue.

They're biochem scientists, not soldiers! :lol

The situation:

My target was located right in the middle of NK territory on top of a plateau. She was being guarded by several troops and 2 anti-aircraft vehicles. Surrounding the base of the plateau were numerous tanks and anti-aircraft vehicles. The area was within range of a jammer. Clearing the area for an allied chopper extraction would be difficult to say the least. Driving her out of the area after capture would be best, but no suitable vehicles are in the area.

I go to the NK chopper base West of the Mash unit and acquire a NK Scout chopper. I land and order a NK Sungri jeep from the Russian mafia. I get back in the chopper and winch the jeep and go flying off to the target area(making sure I'm in NK disguise mode).

To the East of the plateau is a ridge with a flat area behind it suitable for landing. I set down the jeep and then land the chopper. I climb the ridge and use my sniper rifle to clear the support troops. They finally figure out the direction of the shots but by then it's too late. I manage to snipe one of the Anti-aircraft drivers but the other one is parked behind a damn tree and I can't get a clean shot from my location. I get in my chopper and since I'm behind the ridge and out of sight, I'm immediately disguised as NK. I winch the jeep, fly over and set it down on the plateua. I use my chopper's chain gun to eliminate the previously tree protected AA driver. The target is all alone now. I land and subdue her.
I pick her up and throw her in my NK jeep. We aren't in visual range of anyone, so yet again I go straight into NK disguise. The side of the plateau is pretty steep but I manage to get down it without flipping over(which would've blown my cover and caused certain death). I drive merily past all the NK troops and vehicles(thankfully no officers were on the way)and get her to a location for extraction.

so i beat the game getting only about half the cards in the deck maybe less and i let song destroy seoul (by accident). is there any reason to keep playing/play again??

I spent about 2 and a half million to beat the last mission. I kept dying right after the prison part, so I just rushed right through the early area with the other Allied Tanks, just enter the prison and the enemies you left alive aren't a problem.

As for the parts after that, Air Superiority, Air Superiority, and Carpet bombing. I did arm a AA Launcher for a while to get rid of the choppers, but then I couldn't kill any tanks. So I just called Air Sup when I saw more choppers coming and Carpet Bombed every kind of "barrier" the NK have set up. You'll get to a bridge you have a jump, before that, jump in the first Sungri you see and just drive past everyone, they are clueless.

The actually base was rather difficult, because you have a time limit and no real way of getting through a bunch of fences. So I punched boxes until they were close to the wall, and used them to jump over the walls.
