Merry Christmas GAF!

In the Sega Master System thread I shared a video of my best Christmas memory as a child opening that system.

My mother, seen shedding a tear over my joy there, sadly passed away in 2007. She was a great lady. She worked at a Sears in Canada when I was young and I actually remember playing a Sega Master System retail display waiting for her to finish work from time to time. It's the reason I asked for a Sega over a Nintendo. That present was hidden away from the rest and it was , obviously, a BIG deal.

Her last Christmas present to me was a PlayStation 3. I couldn't believe that my parents found one and bought it for me after I had moved out.

Do any of you have cool Christmas gaming memories to share? Videos from back in the day?

And again - Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year everybody.

That's super cool OP. I dont have any videos like that but plenty of stories - mainly when I first got into Pokemon and getting Sapphire as a gift. I must have spent the whole damn day just playing through it

Happy Christmas AGRacing!!

That's a precious memory and video. God bless your wonderful mother.

My Christmas videogame memory is of a Commodore 64 my brother and I received. We knew how to use it but it came with Terminator 2 which was on a cartridge rather than an audio cassette so we didn't realise it didn't need any loading time.

We had it all setup and waiting with the T2 logo on screen - and we waited hours for it to load.

Eventually we realised that we just had to press the space bar or trigger on the joystick which was funny to us back then.

Given your username I'll share another happy memory where my brother and I had wipeout on ps1 and we rented another ps1, setup the sharing cable (and the disc which we swapped back and forth between the two ps1s) and we managed to play wipeout two player on two seperate TVs which was incredible.

Happy Christmas all!
❤️

Awesome!
I actually remember trying to get the PC version of the T2 arcade game working and not figuring it out - ever.
My grandmother got me Wipeout XL for Christmas of 1996. That was a slam dunk Christmas gift.

What an amazing memory. Thanks for sharing.

I have a similar memory of getting a Sega Genesis for Christmas. My mom was sitting right next to me on my left, same as yours. I wanted a N64 that year but they were expensive and I knew at 10 that the console boxes were different and it wasn't a N64 but the excitement and anticipation in my mother's eyes is something that I will never forget as I opened that gift. The Sega Genesis wasn't even on my radar, but it was much more affordable and games were a lot cheaper. I love the Sega Genesis.

It taught me a lot that year. We have to be thankful for all the gifts we received in this life. Money was tight and as a kid I didn't know how little we had but I think those systems were around $99 and my mom made around minimum wage. She worked a long time for that gift. I still have it to this day.

OP is hitting everyone in the feelers today. I appreciate it.

Wishing all a Merry Christmas!

Such an awesome OP. Man, I had so many like that. My parents separated when I was younger, and my mom was the one that made Christmas happen every year. I'm really not sure how either, especially as a single parent. But she always did.

She'd leave gifts for my siblings and I on various parts of the couch in the living room and say that Santa visited. We'd walk in on the morning of Christmas with our eyes closed/covered and then open them as we were standing in front of them. Then afterward we'd open gifts under the tree.

So I definitely had memories like OPs with various consoles all thanks to her. Man, she was the best mother ever. Though I lost her last year on my birthday, I'll always look at Christmas the way I do all thanks to her.

Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all of you. :messenger_peace:

Sad to hear about your mom. My dad drove me to Babbages a lot growing up and he passed away the same year. No videos but the Christmas I opened up my Super Mario World SNES bundle and a 25" TV for my room was a big deal. I was a kid with a TV in my room.

I love this AGRacing AGRacing - such treasured memories.

Don't have any videos myself I was much too shy as a kid - but I remember getting my UK Megadrive that Christmas morning... Its still there in my head those memories.
