Metal Gear Solid 3 - hilarious AND awesome!

It's the best game out of the three definately. They keep the drama out of the codec/radio situations -- and it helps immensely. They keep the radio contacts to a minimum. And the story/characters are bad ass. I'm all for another Big Boss prequel. I'm right at the end fight... I forgot the PS2 could do things so beautiful. I could have finished it last night, but I crawled around in fear instead of going on an all out attack. When I eventually started taking off serious life, the song finished and I died... I'll do it within minutes of getting home from work for sure.

I have something for you guys to try out. I was AMAZED.

Get to the point where
you get your eye shot out, and you get taken back to a cell
. Save the game and quit. When you load that game you'll start in a dream sequence where you're mashing up monsters with two huge blades -- it's like another game entirely. It's a very WTF moment that can only be topped by one or two sequences that follow later on. After a while Snake wakes up in a cold sweat.

Now call Sigint on the radio and listen to his 'dreams'. I fell off my seat laughing. Let's just say it involves a biped robot turd that turns everything to shit. Maybe I'm just lapping up base humor here, but I really liked it. I also really love the Raiden jibes they keep giving out.

Dare I say it: Big Boss > Solid Snake. Possibly my favourite game this generation.

This is fact, you can say it with ease. ;) I love Solid Snake but everything about Big Boss just screams badass.

The previous stuff you mentioned certainly rocked, glad I kept myself ignorant about the game until I played it. Completely suprised the hell out of me and I loved it. Oh and check out GameFaqs for some directions on getting some hysterical codec convos with the rest of the support team. Sigint is of course the best but it's all good.

Wow, didn't know that. Cool!

Hopefully I'll have the official strategy guide tomorrow so I can take everything in the game! :)

I agree. Whilst playing MGS3, it made me think "geez this is going to seriously affect the way I play the original Metal Gear 1 and 2 on MSX again."

After 8 hours of playing the game has been a huge disappointment. The shitty controls and camera really stick out when they took the radar away. Meh.

The controls are the same as MGS2, if not a bit more refined. The camera system is one that is VERY cumbersome to start with, but after you get used to it feels weird to go through MGS1/2 without it. Although I might sound pretentious by saying it, but it's as good as the free range camera system that was implemented in Mario Sunshine and totally shot through the roof with Wind Waker. It definitely makes the game a heck lot better when you use it correctly.

As for the no radar, go play MGS1/2 on something other than Easy/Normal you big chicken nancy :lol

I'm enjoying it so far but I can't see it being my fave, mainly because I'm already sick of the outdoors environments. They're just not appealing to me. Maybe things start looking new and futuristic later on. I dunno.

After the first 2-3 hours the game only gets better and better to me. Sure the camera could definitely be better, but the controls were fine. So what's wrong with the controls?

Haven't u read any previews/reviews of the game? There will be indoor locations and very diverse outdoor environments, not only jungle.

I kinda agree with this. I liked the environments in MGS2 more. But after 10h in the game it's so freaking magical I don't care about that anymore. The ending is probably the best ending ever.

Except for the fact that he keeps getting his ass handed to him by an old lady. Everytime a cutscene with those two would start, I'd think to myself: "Alright, dude, put a little effort into it this time...for crying out loud, everybody's watching you!"

For some reason, I could never get the dream mini game to work after that sequence. Any other points where it can be done? I also noticed I now have a game save that is simply labelled with a ? instead of a time, any idea what that is?

Wow, can't believe people prefer the "enviornments" in MGS2 to MGS3's. The tanker is decent, but the oil rig(or whatever) is the very definition of dull.

MGS3 is definately the game to own of this generation imo. I havent experienced a game that drew me in so deeply and made me feel compelled to complete it. Its like reading a really great novel, you have to turn the page to see what happens next, and tear yourself away to put the book down for good nights rest.

The graphics, subtle details, and immersion this game provided me is unparalled.

The controls work in MGS2 because the enviroments are much simpler in that game. More straight lines, and less chances to run too close to a tree and have Snake accidentally start leaning against it in the middle of the batttle. The radar helps too, you can plan your route ahead of time just by glancing at it.

The camera system is a bit better than that in MGS1 and 2, but the change is not that big. Now the camera system in Mario Sunshine would be too good for a stealth game, but something like the camera in Splinter Cell would have been a huge improvement. So you could actually see few meters ahead of you, without switching to first person view after every two steps. Or they just could have left the radar in, the game already has stealth camos and other hi-tech gadgets, no-one would have cared.

I first played MGS2 on normal, but I later collected most of the dog tags on hard and extreme as well. I don't see what that has to do with the lack of radar in MGS3 though.

I'm still enjoying the game, but it certainly has it's faults.

The Tanker was actually extremely well done and a perfect way to put us in New York and an environment that works for the game at the same time. The rain, wind, flags, parts to throw people off the boat, and various quarters was insanely cool too. But yes, the rig was completely dull. IMO, MGS3 trumps MGS2's environments. It's not even close. There's so much complexity to them if you just search. Multiple paths, hidden animals... And the environment you fight The End in was absolutely amazing for a Sniper fight. When you can't find a guy for 10 minutes straight, that's a hell of a feat. My game of the gen definitely

Holy shit.

Just finished it and watched the ending. Twice.
I teared up a little the first time too.

I'd really like to play Metal Gear remakes all of a sudden or follow what happens after this. Freaking awesome.
