Metal Gear Solid PS2->PSP connectivity

Unbelievable! I thought Nintendo showed effectively that the whole connectivity stuff isn't all that great, but Konami knows better. Gamefront reports that the manual of Metal Gear Acid contains some information about connectivity between Metal Gear Solid 3 and Metal Gear Acid. You can unlock stuff in both games if you have MGA and MGS3 and connect your PS2 with your PSP.

The games are released the same day in Japan, right?

That sounds pretty cool but nothing new at all. It's still great to know that Konami is trying out the connectivity idea as well, maybe down the line they'll bring something interesting to the table?

Damn, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is the game that just keeps on giving. I wonder what gets unlocked, maybe some more camo patterns?
It would be great if you could unlock a camo pattern that looked like the character model of Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid 2.

But that still doesn't change anything. Metal Gear Ac!d still has to be a good game, I'm not buying something just for connectivity. Stuff like this is good when a game already has 1001 unlockables without you needing to buy anything extra...like Metal Gear Ac!d. So hopefully Ac!d is a great game and I can get some extra crap in both games and still get another amazing Metal Gear experience. I've already promised myself that Ac!d won't be ANYWHERE near the experience of MGS3 though, we all know that's not going to happen anytime soon.

Its a choice and a possibility for developers. Its not being pushed or forced by Sony in any way. The PSP has the ability to interact with many different devices, and the PS2 is included because of the convenient USB port.

Can't feel excited at all. This is just as annoying as when Nintendo was doing it, and I'm not glad to hear I'm missing out on stuff in MGS3, however small it may be. :(

Sure it is. For one, Sony isn't pushing it and, as of late, neither is Nintendo...

Konami is the one doing it here.

It pisses me off, though. It's the same bullshit that I had to deal with on the GC. I don't want features hidden from me in such a way that I must own additional hardware to view them.

I'm sure it's only a matter of time before Sony published titles will feature connectivity.

I wouldn't suprised (although they have yet to really discuess the concept). You won't have a problem with it, though, I'm sure.

I'll just go ahead and blame Nintendo. Everytime a PSP title shows up with connectivity features, I'll simply curse Nintendo.

As always, connectivity can be gimmicky or not gimmicky. Nintendo have managed both, I have no doubt that Sony will as well.

And gimmicks aren't always entirely bad. ;-)

great... i bet Sony's attempt at "teh connectivity" will be a success, they'll claim it was their own original creation, and nintendo will get no credit... again. what a cruel world we live in.

You like that, huh? That's how it was to be a Sega fan back in the day...

Well, there's an 'acid' password that you can get while playing MGS3, if you interrogate one guard. I wrote it down, but I have no idea what it does.

So, another company copies Nintendo. As usual, I see...

But now, suddenly, this is cool, and will offer amazing possibilites!!

Yet another one...

Everyone keeps running in here all like "Yeah, NOW everyone thinks it's all cool" when, in reality, nobody has said or implied such a thing. :P

i'd like to see PSP connectivity used like it was in Wind Waker, as an additional mode of play and not as a key to unlock something which is should be more readily available. The downside to adding such uses is that it requires more resources to develop on already tight budgets (time and money-wise), and there number of people who own a PS2, connectivity-enabled PS2 game, a PSP, and possibly the PSP version of said game wouldn't justify the inclusion. i'd love to see it happen, especially with WiFi and the wild possiblities of sharing a game from the host PSP with other units.

I don't think anyone has said that...and yes we all know Nintendo invented the wheel. God forbid Microsoft and Sony connect any of their products.

It's lame whether Konami or Nintendo does it. I paid for MGS3. I shouldn't have to buy Metal Gear Acid to gain access to content on the MGS3 disc or vice versa.

Of course, whereas Nintendo fanboys were touting this kind of shit as teh revolutionary, none of us are evangelizing any PSP-PS2 connectivity gimmicks as the next big thing. Hopefully PSP connectivity dies a quick death.

:lol no one touted connectivity as revolutionary except Nintendo. Go cry some more about MGS3.

I really don't think any of this is a big deal either way. It's probably just camo patterns for MGS3. After all in Japan there're already special camos for: buying the maxi-single, preordering the game, buying the OST, and living near a store which has special camo downloads for customers (I'm not sure whoch one. ask Bebpo). So it's already unfair, I don't see how extra camo/whatever for buying Metal Gear Ac!d is any worse, since no one in the US is getting any of this (except maybe the Ac!d stuff).

Can you remind me was the password was? I never wrote it down.

Anyway - has this MGS3/MGSA stuff been confirmed by anyone else? Scan of the manual, etc?

I'm pretty sure Kojima said in an interview that there was no connectivity between Acid and Snake Eater.

BTW, there's a second AC!D password. I don't remember it, though. :P

Duckroll, that's not the password I got. Mine was someting totally meaningless. I wrote it down, but I'll have to get home first before I can post it.

Read it yourself. Doesn't sound like someone thinking connectivity has all of a sudden become cool to me - more like someone who thinks it's neither cooler nor less cool than it was when it was new.

:lol that was quick

to date nintendo's coolest connectivity app is pacman. though i haven't had opportunity to play 4 swords or CC with four people.

edit: pac-man makes you his bitch V V V

Sorry, but connectivity sucks. I don't care WHAT you do with it; it's still stupid. Every use of it on GameCube could've used alternative ways to accomplish the same thing. And it's especially stupid when all it does is unlock shit.

Amen.

Post-DC have we seen a connectivity-friendly NFL game that lets you call plays on the small screen?
Didn't Madden 2004 do this on GC/GBA (along with FIFA that year)?
