QUOTE FOR THE DAY: "We come now to create our album of life. Throughout our individual and collective journeys, sometimes through pain and conflict, we've discovered the true meaning of family. As we accomplish ultimate togetherness, we become healers of ourselves and the countless who embrace us and our message. We have learned and we understand. Now we must share." - the "Mission Statement" for heavy metal group Metallica's new album, drafted by their "performance-enhancement coach." (Taken from the latest GQ review of the new documentary, "Some Kind of Monster.")

It pains me to say it, but they should just tour playing their old stuff and then retire. :(

Shut up! They just need to right a few really fast songs, write some fucked up lyrics and throw in a few solos. That's all we ask for! SOLOS! :(

I read that quote like 5 times...I cannot make sense of it.

There. (plays One on comp)

Regardless what anyone says , I stand behind Load and Reload as fine records. Actually, if they dumped the weaker songs and pulled the strong songs from both records they would have had 1 incredible album.

Now St. Anger I can't say anything nice about.

goddamit, Griese!
lol

well on the bright side, it can't be worse than St. Anger, can it? CAN IT? Someone please tell me it can't.

I like St Anger. Especially track 3, some kind of monster. It's so fun to rock out to.

I love Metallica. \w/

It was written by the insane Phil Towle (see: SKOM) and is meaningless psychobabble. Don't pay it any mind. As Flynn said it pertains to St. Anger, which at this point is old news. They won't have a new album coming out for ages.

What was the point of this thread, Ripclawe?

Serafitia +2.
1 for what Metallica obviously needs to do, as they refuse to get their act together
1 for a comment which makes it seem like you're a fan of old Metallica

I don't think they really can, not without Clff Burton...
Cliff's views might've been more in line with the current Metallica than you think:

In the interview, Cliff talks about the bands tour, predicts the demise of the then-new thrash metal scene, suggests that the band might experiment with softer music in the future and that they may use a big name producer in the future, to be able to work faster in the studio (!).

But Cliff would have kept doing more epic music. He liked classical stuff. If Metallica can still dish out something like The Call of Ktulu or Orion, then I'll believe again. Still love them though, it was just St. Anger that did it.

These are the repetitive rantings which James miscall his lyrics. All this I cannot bear to listen to any longer. Cannot the kingdom of heaven take me home?

Honestly Sera, Metallica has always been Hetfield/Ulrich, and will always be Hetfield/Ulrich. While Cliff did influence their musical direction, I don't think it was to the extent that people believe.

Then again, what do I know... I love St. Anger.

EDIT: Come on Alpha, To Live is to Die.

Yes I know what she cited at the end, it's just how she lead herself into it. It was almost...random. Plus she said "heaven." It's "salvation." :p

EAT IT!

Edit: Unless...that was intentional like the rest of it was...

I'm confused and have somehow wandered into a custody battle. Also my brain hurts and I'm tired.

PS: I also like Load and Reload. HAHA... fodder. [/Phil Ken Sebben]

No.
I am seriously not talking to you for the next three days. It should be a week, but you're still kinda cool. Ass.

Musashi Wins!

FLAWLESS VICTOLY!
I really liked the public therapy program they've been going through. It's wonderful to see a band you've come to hate not only implode and become irrelevant but to do so in such a....sacharine way. Bravo, Metallica. Good show.

I really miss the classical influence that Metallica used to have. In all likelyhood we will never see another album as perfect or technically brilliant as ...And Justice For All. That was music. St. Anger was a bunch of noise. These guys used to be my favourite band because they were actually real musicians. You could hear the effort and passion that went into the songs. St. Anger just seems incredibly contrived and I can't help but cringe at the lyrics.

I like Load and Reload well enough. There are some strong tracks on both, namely Fixxxer and Outlaw Torn. :)

Personally, the only thing I really... REALLY love in the St-Anger Album, is the last part of Frantic. Everything else is not really like Metallica.

Hetfield used to say he didn't like to play old material. Well when they did the Summer Sanitarium tour last year, they did play lots of old stuff like No Remorse, Blackened and Harvester of Sarrow. After the show, he did an interview and he said it felt good playing old material. Maybe they should get the hint, do some stuff like they used to.I really like their new Bassist too. Robert's pretty good.

I wanna also go on record, saying Jason Newsted is a fucktard.
He's now with a group formed by quebecers.

Can you blame him? James and Lars treated him like shit for 15 years.

Also, Voivod does fucking rule it.

In other words: "We're all washed up. Don't expect our next album, like the last one or the one before that etc.. to be any good."

-Love Metallica

p.s.- your all suckers. give me your money!

I don't think anyone can really deny that Metallica is still an incredible live force. Most of their sets are still comprised of a lot of their older material, which makes for some happy fans. Plus, they just flat-out rock when they're on stage.

I know a lot of people have cited the last 30 or so seconds of "Frantic" as being the best thing about St. Anger, but I just don't see it. It sounds just about as shitty as the rest of the album. It doesn't sound "old" to me at all. I've tried... Really, I've tried hard to like St. Anger, but I just can't. I like "Sweet Amber" a little, and a couple parts of some songs here and there, but for the most part, that album is an abomination.

I think St. Anger is decent, but after all the hype and the fact that Metallica is my favorite band of all time I cant help but feel really let down. I don't even listen to that album anymore... the goddamn drumming gives me a headache after 30 minutes and all of James' lyrics just repeat over and over and over and over. Makes songs like Bleeding Me and Fixxxer look like goddamn masterpieces (which they are). ;)

And the crowning blow was when I realized I like Slipknot's CD (fucking SLIPKNOT) better than St. Anger. How times have changed... :(

Metallica's dead. They started dying when Cliff did. The last really good album they've put out came out 16 years ago.
