Hey,

Anyone have the LE guide? Is it worth $30? Is it a hardcover art book? Can someone post pics of the art book?

Pretty weak for hardcore fans. The guide has an alternate cover, but is still the basic, incomplete book you could buy for half the price (although the only thing useful about it is the maps). The artbook is a reasonably good collection of pictures from the three MGS games (although far more of 1 than 2 or 3) in a softcover thinbook much the same as the Eternal Challenge or Pokemon Colosseum books (the guide and artbook slip into a still-weak but stiffer cardboard sleeve). Unfortunately, it seems pretty obvious they had to scan many of the pictures from the real books, so some of the drawings have unadjusted colors or obvious pixelation.

Personally, I think you would be better off using Gamefaqs and then buying the real japanese artbooks (which blow this away in both quality of product and sheer amount of stuff), but if you want a cheap, disposable book first, I guess this is the only way to go. (And at least it's not as embarassing as the Colosseum book, which only had two illustrations)

Which japanese MG3 book has the best illustrations?

How's this book?

That appears to be a strategy guide, not an artbook.

You're looking for either this:

Art of Metal Gear Solid
(I own it, it's a superb book, I think it's out of print, though. Has an interview between Shinkawa and FF Artist Yoshitaka Amano at the back)

or

Art of Metal Gear Solid 1.5
(Apparently the same thing but remixed with some Twin Snakes or MGS2 content? Not quite sure.)

or

Art of Metal Gear Solid 2
(Another high-quality product, obviously for MGS2 stuff only.)

Keep in mind these are all Japanese books and usually aren't something you can buy through Amazon.com. There should be plenty of friendly importer shops to look through, though.

Is there any book that has part 3 only? How are the strategy guides? Lots of art, or is it exactly like those bradygames guides? I just want a good art book, coffee table type book.

An MGS3 artbook will happen eventually, I think, but I haven't seen any evidence of it yet.

No idea about the japanese guides, but the american one has a reasonable amount of in-game images, and if you really expect to put some wear into your coffee table books, the LE artbook may be worth a shot. It's just not early as interesting as the import books.
