Who the hell checks over these ballots? That is really horribly designed. I hope Missouri's absentee ballot is a little better designed.

No arrow for Cheny/Bush? This'll be interesting if it's really real.

No, no, there is, it's just not aligned properly.

So if you tick the first one, it's for Bush/Cheney.

Alternatively, if you WANT Kerry/Edwards, the tick aligned with that name really is the one for Bush/Cheney.

There is an arrow, but the problem is that they aren't aligned properly next to the names of the candidates. The arrow that points to Kerry/Edwards is really the arrow for Bush/Cheney.

So who were the idiots who designed this particular absentee ballot?
(And idiocy is the only reason I can think of for misaligning those arrows)

Well, according to a blog with the same graphic, they're issuing reprints correcting the error.
And this is a ballot for the city of Alma, in Gratiot County, MI. So it's a ballot for only one city.

But still, how does something like this get by everyone at the company? And they've already sent out a bunch of them, will the corrections get to everyone?

This better be the top fucking news story if this is true. Unbelievable.
Here-here. Have at least any local sources picked this up?

Good to hear they're correcting it, but yeah... HOW do they fuck up that bad, especially given the 2000 election?

:lol at not being able to read the word democratic on the Dem "party logo" and at putting abe lincoln on the republican "party logo" even if Abe's republican party was radically different than the one of today. :lol

:( at the design of the ballot.

Kerry's going to take Michigan for sure -- so many factory and manufacturing jobs have been lost here. The job market is terrible. Don't get me started on the way Michigan schools were screwed by No Child Left Behind (with some help from the previous Governor too, admittedly). And the recent beheading of a Hillsdale, MI resident in Iraq sure didn't help Bush's popularity.

That absentee ballot is a shame, but hopefully they issue new ones. On the upside, MI is pretty anal about who can file an absentee ballot. In some states, you don't need a reason to vote that method--just to request an absentee ballot and to send it back in. Here, you have to prove that you can't reach a polling spot in your district or township.

I don't see any republican presidential candidate winning Michigan any time soon, and they haven't for a long time.

I live here, I know.

I typically lean slightly right, but Engler was just a fucking pissant. I hated that guy.

lol, I think their trying to fool Democrats into voting for Bush with that arrow not alligned properly :). Wouldn't be surprised if it works.

Well...I know I speak for a small minority (basically my group of friends and colleagues), but we're all voting Kerry here (Michigan).

However, *we have quite the population of NASCAR fans and rednecks that are dead-set on voting for Bush.

*My obligatory sterotyping of the average republican voter - no offense to board dwelling rednecks. NASCAR still sucks, however.
