Explore some of the most exotic regions on Earth in Microsoft Flight Simulator World Update XIII: Oceania and Antarctica! This free update, available today, includes Polynesia, Melanesia, the Galapagos Islands, and key regions of Antarctica and the Antarctic Peninsula. The Microsoft Flight Simulator team used the latest satellite imagery, aerial photography, and digital elevation models to create World Update XIII. The update features enhanced modeling of 13 countries and 28 non-sovereign territories, and includes over a dozen handcrafted airports, 150 custom points of interest, and 11 exciting missions: 3 bush trips, 5 fresh discovery flights, and 3 new landing challenges - all included with Game Pass. The sky is calling!

Looks stunning as always and yes it is a game.

Fun fact, older Civilization managed to map Antarctica, before we modern humans discovered it.

That on the left is a much better version than the one I had. PC's with CGA only had 2 palettes of 4 colors available, and the most common one were black/white and cyan/pink, since IBM designed them for making pie charts stand out. Later I was able to buy an Amstrad 1640 that had an EGA, with 16 colors available. It was a quantum leap. Still I enjoyed FS like no other software. Those were the days.

Looks good. I need to download it again as I just upgraded my PC. I wish they'd update the installation process to speed up how long it takes. You can have fast internet and a beefy CPU with fast SSD but it still takes forever to download the game, add ons, or patch it.

I have a cpu with 16 cores/32 threads and an SSD that runs at 6-7GB/s but it makes no difference because it's single threaded so decompression takes forever.

Oh and have they fixed the horizon line bug yet? That was super annoying.
That game is such a looker and something I'd love on PS5 for those evenings where you just want to chill with some tunes and do a bit of virtual tourism
If you wanna play it you need to buy an Xbox or build a PC.

A flight sim game but man that gave me goosebumps haha

How are helicopters? I've always hoped they would be more easy mode... ive played the game earlier a bunch with my kids but was always terrible at takeoff and landing. Would be nice to hover around and take in the sights slower than zipping by in a plane.

Still there. There was a quote from a developer on the official forum that said something like it would require a complete rewrite of the rendering pipeline to fix, so I guess it isn't going away any time soon (ever).

Helicopters are expert mode. When they're moving they handle just like fixed wing aircraft, but it's 10 times harder to land one.

Just installed the update. The release notes say some of the scenery was done by Orbx, which is a specialist scenery developer that I thought would have been put out of business by MSFS. The amount of free stuff that Asobo has produced over the last few years is crazy - on any other flight sim you have to buy these updates from the likes of Orbx, at great expense, and they inevitably break some other components of your sim.

Incidentally, is this the biggest game install around? Surely not even CoD can touch this.

Pretty sure Ark at this point is actually closer to 400 than it is to 300GB.

Before my nephew stopped playing (incidentally cuz he had a 500GB SSD for games) it was like 360GB.....and I know a couple other maps have come out since then.
So it should be right up on that 400GB mark.

I was gonna gift him a 1TB M.2......his motherboard doesnt support M.2.
Time to convince moms to build a new machine.......just have Black_Stride do it for you so he can get the commish.

Here is the bug if anyone is curious.

Sick update. I visited Antarctica in this game when it launched. Felt amazing and surreal.
