Midway Arcade Treasures 3 - Gamespot review

Choosing to highlight a specific genre within a classic games compilation is a fine idea, but the folly of Midway Arcade Treasures 3 is its choice of genres. So many of the games included here relied so heavily on custom arcade hardware that they lose much of their appeal in the translation

Midway should have tossed in another 5-10 classic arcade titles, just to round out the collection. That would have helped...

Why do BOTH IGN and Gamespot fail to mention whether or not DFP support is in? I can only guess at this point that it's not in there, but shame on IGN and GS for not even mentioning it.

And if it's not in fact in the game, fuck you Midway. Bringing something called "Arcade" Treasures then you better damn well try to mimic the arcade experience as best as possible by supporting the DFP.

Was there ever confirmation if Rush 2049 and Hydro Thunder really are Dreamcast ports with all the options and such included?

as long as Rush and Hydro Thunder look and play nice, I don't care. Ivan Stewart is just icing on the cake.

Fixed. :)

The emulation on S.T.U.N. Runner, unfortunately, isn't particularly consistent, and the speed of the game fluctuates drastically. Early levels that are short and feature minimal traffic run faster than they did originally in the arcade, but once you start putting other vehicles on the road, the game begins to crawl.

Beer Monkey am cry. I'm guessing Digital Eclipse did not code this? They are usually 99% accurate.

I think what would've helped the package was making the DC version of Hydro Thunder go up to 4 players, as the other games that did not have a home console port go up to 4 players.

Yes, Hydro THunder only goes up to 2 players, and the non-console ported games only go to one. No system linking, nothing. Digital Eclipse seriously dropped the ball this time.

My understanding is that some of the games are emulated (courtesy of Digital Eclipse), and some are recoded ports (via Midway's internal teams).

Gamespot can suck my ballsack, this is instant-buy material. The IGN review says that San Francisco Rush: The Rock runs at 60fps!!!

And I'm glad they left out Crusin USA/World, those games were for retards.

AM PURCHASED TOTAL

If there aren't really problems with how the games play, I'm still buying this. Both Rush games... and Hydro Thunder... $20... *drools*

(I hope they don't screw up the GC version.)

Looks like there's a PC compilation with Arcade Treasures 2 and 3 coming out soon, too:

huh. I wonder if the graphics will look any different with a high-end graphics card

I just read that a little while ago, was so fucking surprised that they basicly doubled teh framerate of SF Rush The Rock, that I made my own thread on the subject. I havent had time to actually try it out yet since Im at school. damn I cannot wait!

Lets just make this the official topic since its out now. Yes, the GCN version was delayed. Reason why? Midway could give you a reason, but that just stops you from getting the other two versions...

I didn't play Hydro Thunder, but I DID play Rush on MAT3 at the Classic Gaming Expo. The thing was unoptimized and took FOREVER to load, but once it did, the first thing we checked was for the Dreamcast's great Battle mode. It's in there. It was a little weird, maybe the emulation was off or they hadn't finished coding the thing, but from everything I saw, it was essentially the dreamcast version.

(Friend I played with spent hours upon hours playing battle mode and so we had to know if it was really there)

What all else did they put in the complimation? Any extra images? Developer videos? Come on, I'm dying to know out here. somebody change the topic name or I'll just make yet another one =P

damnit, there have to be some cheats for RUSH THE ROCK.

-control sensitivity?
-time limit?
-reverse tracks (i know how to do mirrored)
-audio

You're one "complimation" away from getting punched in the mouth.

-video of Ed, Edd n Eddy (don't ask)
-credits for each MAT3 game
-arcade flyers/promotional material for each game, even Hydro and Rush 2049, dispite the fact that MAT3 has the DC versions.
