MiSTer FPGA Sega Saturn core hits update_all; basically a finished core

Another impossible core was totally possible as today the dev of the Saturn core, Srg320 updated the repo and added the most recent Saturn FPGA core to the main distribution branch with 100% of the Saturn library (and tons of homebrew/translations/etc) working.

Still a few tiny loose ends like some wonky dual stick support but the reality of a fully featured Sega Saturn FPGA core had happened after two years of test cores and active developments. And that's something!

Use some sort of Ai voice generator.

I've tried it several times but I don't know what you're talking about. I can't understand you.

But a saturn core is wonderful.

Is that all you are telling us?

I could have sworn it was already on update_all, otherwise I don't know how I would have gotten it. Either way, this is great news.

Seems like we're right up against the upper limit of the MiSTer now, though. I'm hoping maybe we can squeeze out the Namco system 22 eventually.

Perhaps the retro community will upgrade to a new FPGA board for stuff like Dreamcast, GameCube, etc ..
I'd be super interested in that. I remember asking about this a few years ago, and iirc the challenge is finding an FPGA powerful enough that isn't thousands of dollars. The Cyclone V on the DE-10 is a heavily subsidized FPGA, I think to drive adoption in education. But generally FPGAs are a lot more expensive. VGEsoterica VGEsoterica would know more than me about it, though.

That really is my end-game goal, though: an FPGA that powers consoles up through the 6th gen, and arcade boards through NAOMI 2 and Triforce. Basically all systems that belong on a CRT.

Eventually the Chicago accent grows on you, then you should be able to understand.

lol 99.9% of people are fine with how I talk. .01% think I need to change for them. That's like saying "your eye color is brown. Make it blue"

and also its mostly a Vermont accent where I grew up. So New England minus the Boston

What are you talking about? I've listen to you and you have no accent. It's everybody else not from New England that have accents. (Why does everybody tell me I have a Massachusetts accent? I don't have any accent.)

its my inability to say the letter T

like recently I did a video where I talked about OutTrigger on Dreamcast. I had to notate in the VO and description that I KNEW the name of the game...but it was just going to sound like OuRigger.

Vermont has no T at the end to us. Its Vermonn

That being said I left VT at 18 and haven't been back. I lived in BC for awhile. In Europe for a bit and now Chicago for 15 years so it's a mash up of whatever the hell I picked up along the way

Oh that's how you'd say it? People can probably guess, I definitely pronounce that as OutTriggah. (Yes I really do drop r's.) Anyway time to go to the local packie and after that get a frappe. (Which is pronounced frap)

The core itself was, but it wasn't being updated so it was a really old version. You had to manually grab the nightlies which contained a ton of fixes.

This is the release of the almost finished version of the core to the masses who just run update_all.

We'll see what else can be squeezed out of the MiSTER. Memory bandwidth and timings seem to be the main limiting factors. But we have both Saturn and N64 working with the single SDRAM stick, so you never know.
