MLB lifts ban on Pete Rose

Should had been done long time ago.

Problem is they surely planned it this way waiting for him to die first. If he was still alive, the league would face any bickering back from Rose or anyone else who supported him getting in. But since he died last year, he'll be quietly inducted. Probably at the next time it's HoF time.

Called it. They always wait until they die to do stuff like this. It's a shame
Yup.

They lose big time face if they got to admit defeat man to man when someone is alive.

They'll quietly allow this to go through and hope sports channels and HoF voters keep as quiet too even when Rose gets inducted.

Yeah? Same day that you all of a sudden pick up a StrikePack or whatever on your Xbox and declare it "no big deal" after railing against COD cheaters for god knows how long?

You knew something. Maybe you're even Pete Rose and faked your own death... nobody ever remembers the middle relievers said Pete (i.e. you) while concocting this scheme.
Always Sunny Reaction GIF

Haven't connected all the dots yet but it can't all just be a coincidence.

Why were they on there? Steroid related stuff?

I only know of Peter Rose from his various WWF / WWE appearances.

Pete bet on Baseball while he managed the Reds where he could help determine the outcome

Jackson was a part of the Chicago White Sox fixing the 1919 World Series even though Jackson had a great series

The steroid users are shadow banned, just not getting votes. These guys cheated via gambling. Shoeless Joe maybe didn't cheat but he knew the rest of the team was and didn't say anything.

It's a shame he never lived to see hit. Put him in the hall and call it a day.

HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 i know you knew him. Share a Pete rose story please.
Pete bet on everything he could.

He would have wads of cash on his desk and would have guys go place bets to someone I wouldn't remotely want to know out in the parking lot of the stadium using a payphone

Huge homophobe that would buy a certain player hookers to "blow him straight"

But once he called you a friend there was no one faster to get in your corner

If I remember correctly, didnt he admit to betting Reds to win? So in a way, I know gambling is a no no, but his job as coach is to win anyway.

Do you know if Rose ever bet to lose? That would be different.

I faintly remember seeing the 4,162 game on TV live. It was against SD. Such a special game I assume every market in US/Can had the game on TV even though it was Reds/SD. Back then in the Toronto market, the only games on TV you'd see are Jays, Expos and on Buffalo Fox29 you'd get Yankees games. They never showed Mets.

Even if he did bet to always win the problem is would it change how he managed?

Would he use all his best relievers to ensure a win if it wasn't totally needed and at the cost of the next couple of games?

If this isn't a viral marketing campaign for Field of Dreams 2:Major Leagues or at the very least a zombie baseball film, Imma gonna be pisssed!

You shouldn't bet on any sport you coach play participate or own. It will affect many things when winning or losing makes you money.

Hey uhhh.... Not Pete, bud, fella... I'm feeling super super gay all of a sudden and unless a friend steps in to help I might end up doing the homo. Not sure why I'm telling you this Not Pete it's just I always considered you to be a friend.

What a douche. Waiting till the guy dies is such Busch league behavior.

Hope the guys friends and family appreciates the honor.

Crazy that this happened mere weeks after trump met Manfred and pressured him to lift the ban on Rose. A guy Manfred just tens years ago refused to reinstate. Crazy the power a sitting u.s president has on a sports league.

Baseball is on an amazing streak.

Even though Rose and Shoeless should have been in the HoF a decade or more ago, this ep stop be cool to see!!!

Couple this with the changes to the draft. And having non tradable first rounds picks, with supplemental picks for losing stars, and also moving the draft to the all star week is brilliant!

MLB especially shines bright after seeing the continued shenanigans the NBA pulled. NBA is hot garbage, and that is really sad!

Manfred is a Selig disciple and therefore, a coward. Has absolutely no business being a commissioner. If I'm the baseball writers I would not vote him in on purpose. He didn't want to get voted in after he died. To do it months later is a slap in the face.

10000% the reason they did this is so they can open up the MLB broadcasts to gambling shit that has corrupted and ruined almost every other sport.

More likely that the biggest star in the world is tied up in a huge gambling controversy that they managed to sweep under the rug. Selig/Manfred will always protect the Dodgers.
They going to let Curt Schilling in the HoF or are they still going to have a bug up their ass about him?
The baseball writers have too much power in this regard. Somehow Albert Belle is not in the HoF. Ridiculous

The Shoeless Joe Jackson ban always felt yuck to me... he was acquitted of any wrong doing by a stinking Grand Jury which had been set up to investigate the scandal..... and years later the "others" who were involved said he didn't do anything.

Both should have been in the Hall of Fame YEARS ago.

Pete's fate now rests in the hands of the Era committee which is a mix of media and HOF players (though no idea who is on that committee presently without looking it up)

I didn't realize that they were doing this. Since he was ineligible and not passed over he should default to being voted in. He was banned before his first year of eligibility.
10 days before his death, Rose told sportscaster John Condit: "I've come to the conclusion -- I hope I'm wrong -- that I'll make the Hall of Fame after I die. Which I totally disagree with, because the Hall of Fame is for two reasons: your fans and your family. ... And it's for your family if you're here. It's for your fans if you're here. Not if you're 10 feet under. You understand what I'm saying?"

"What good is it going to do me or my fans if they put me in the Hall of Fame a couple years after I pass away?" Rose told Condit. "What's the point? What's the point? Because they'll make money over it?"

Personally, i believe baseball is on such a tear right now it is remarkable. Baseball has done a 180 in the last 3 years and has exploded in more corrections to the game than we have seen in the last 50 years. Remarkable.

This is another example. They were never going to let him in when he was alive. But first year after his death, he will be "in".

Rose deserves to be in HOF in my opinion, I would also put his dirty deeds on his plaque as well. I would also mention he was not honored during his life, but after. Same with Shoeless Joe.

If people are not aware MLB has done major corrections recently. The MLB draft has been moved to Allstar week, so they have extra eyeballs on the Draft. Which is amazing. In the last decade, changes or tweaks have been to the draft:

Every team's 1st round pick is NOT tradeable, so every team is represented.

Additional draft picks for teams that lose a high price free agent. Small market are no longer feeder for big market, there are repercussions.

Pitch clock

Wild card expansion

Getting rid of the defensive shift

Larger bases for more contact.

2026 may be the megaton though. Rumor is a lockout after the end of next season and a full salary cap will be implemented with salary floor & ceiling, and changes to the cap if a signed player becomes long term injured. And they will announce the next relocation teams. Tampa Bay, and possibly the White Sox.

What will be interesting is if the HoF voters love Rose enough to vote him in. I dont know, since I dont follow baseball enough to know what their sentiment is with gamblers.

With juicers, it seems most dont like it so they'll not vote for roiders. But gamblers? Not sure.

HeisenbergFX4: What's you take on voter sentiment for banned gamblers vs. steroid users?

MLB geopolitics = cowards.

Yes, it should have been done when he was alive for his achievements on the field as a player.

I have no problem with Rose being banned during his lifetime. As excessive as it felt to me I can understand the need for a hardline on gambling.

Shoeless Joe is more sympathetic since I understand he didn't actually cheat himself. Guilt by association or for not being a snitch felt like a bridge too far.

It will remain crazy that the player with the most hits of all time, the player with the most home runs of all time, and one of the greatest pitchers of all time are still not in the Hall of Fame.

Wild that so many would support him going into the hall of fame. Just goes to show that people don't really care about the integrity of the game...

Well I don't really care about mark mcguire or bonds using steroids. They were not banned when they used them.

Both should be banned for life as well as Sammy Sosa and anyone else who used during the steroid era.

Should be more than just a shadow ban.

Aaron Judge is the homerun leader in my book.
