Really want to see what Bucs do to deal with the 1B situation in the offseason. Payroll is going to balloon this year no matter what but I won't be surprised to see them try to trade Alvarez and bring in someone. Please send Sean "Gatorade Little Mac" Rodriguez away too. Burnett leaves a hole to fill in the rotation (but I guess we haven't given up hope on Tallion).

More Korean players potentially coming over this year. Hanshin Tigers closer Seung-hwan Oh's contract is up and he wants to come to the majors, and supposedly a couple of KBO stars are looking into it. And (as of today) 2015 Japan series MVP Lee Dae-ho also wants to test the MLB market.

You Mark Teixiera? We've done good business in the past!

@rwesthead
Source: In their 1st & only meeting, new Jays prez Mark Shapiro scolded Alex Anthopolous & staff for trading so many top prospects this yr

Okay i'm worried about Shapiro now. If he's the reason why AA isn't staying then fuck him.

Yankees are pretty much going to run out the exact same team hoping for resurgent performances from A-Rod, Teixeira, Beltran, Ellsbury, Sabathia and the rest of the 2010 All-Star Team...

...unless they can miraculously flip some people. Maybe Tex would allow his NTC to be waived so he could play elsewhere with the last year of his deal? Maybe McCann would do the same if we picked up some of his deal? Maybe the Yankees can find a taker for Gardner and/or Nova? Maybe the Yankees could trade high on some of the kids like Bird, Betances and Severino?

...oh god

OP incomplete? Or are we just all accepting that baseball threads are now primarily for discussing Blue Jays baseball?

We have a sportrac list of impeding free agents that would be interesting to discuss.

We have some interesting upcoming milestones, particularly for Pujols and Ichiro.

Also have a lot to talk about regarding top minor league prospects.

Even the Arizona Fall League still has a lot going on, with dudes with awesome names like Brooks Pounders having a remarkable run with 14 k's in 12 innings over 3 starts with a .42 WHIP.

As I said in the Toronto thread, I'm disappointed that AA is leaving after the work he's done, and work still to do.

That being said, it's oddly exciting to see who the Jays get to replace him. It feels kind of like a surprise WWE appearance in a way.

Dat salary to get the same splits. better glove though!

I wish Bell was ready now though his glove may also be a disaster at first.
Teixeira was a lot better versus righties than Alvarez was (152 wRC+ vs 116 wRC+) and Tex versus lefties wasn't bad either (116 wRC+). He only has one year left at $22.5 million, we'd eat some of it.

Realistically the only one I can being traded is Gardner because he has some value and his deal isn't crazy (3 years $39 million left). Cashman is going to have to get creative again this off-season (heyward pls), but I do feel like they're going to make a significant trade this upcoming off-season.

Off-season wish list:
Starting pitcher preferably a 3 or better
Heyward or Upton (preferably Heyward)
Right handed reliever
Right handed bat

The Marlins have had a good offseason so far, I love the Jim Benedict signing. I expect him to improve our farm system, and hopefully mold Tyler Kolek into a good starter. Mattingly is an okay hire, and it will be interesting to see what he can do with a much smaller payroll.

The biggest offseason needs are a 1B who can hit left lefties, so they can platoon him with Bour, and starting pitching. Doubt the Marlins even talk to Price, Cueto, ZImmermann or Grienke, but I could see them making a push for Gallardo, Fister, and Leake.

I'm also interested to see what will happen to Marcell Ozuna this offseason. I don't think he has a lot of value right now, so I hope the Marlins hang on to him.

Oh he would undoubtedly be better, but salaries for Melancon and Walker are already going up significantly this offseason and Alvarez's likely 8M is pushing it. Yanks ain't going to eat that much salary.

I got the answer though, Lee Dae-ho wants to come to the majors from NPB, let's do it Hutch. Simultaneously help the Bucs and weaken the Hawks.

Marte and Cutch both finalists for gold glove.

I need to watch Honeywell pitch. I'm a sucker for a good screwball.

AA conference call was delayed because they didn't have enough phone lines lol

This is either going to be awesome if he goes off, or it will be completely lame if he doesn't want to burn bridges.

Probably the latter, but here's hoping!

It's going to be the latter.

Ed Rogers

Alex has done a terrific job as GM of the Blue Jays over the past six seasons, and we would have loved it if he stayed with the club. Like the fans, we too are disappointed he has chosen not to accept our five-year contract offer, but we wish him the very best. Alex leaves behind an outstanding front office team and coaching staff that played a key role in shaping the team's great run this season. They will continue to operate in leadership roles next year as we look to build upon the team's success. We remain committed to putting a winning team on the field and look forward to many more exciting seasons for the Blue Jays.

Dirty pool mentioning the contract length IMO.

Beeston:

After an exciting 2015 season, Alex Anthopoulos has reluctantly and regrettably decided that he is not going to return to the Toronto Blue Jays Baseball Club for 2016. Alex has done an unbelievable job and positioned us well for the future. He can take great pride in his past and while we do not know where his future is taking him, we do know wherever he is going, he will be successful. On behalf of all the employees of the Toronto Blue Jays, players, front office, scouts and player development staff we wish him good luck in the future and thank him for a job extremely well done.

Reluctantly stands out. It could be nothing but I feel it's obvious.

Dudes, of course he's going to say this kind of shit. And of course the org is going to talk about how sad they are etc.

Wasn't there a rumour that he was angling for the PBO position earlier in the year? That might have as much to do with him seeking pastures anew than any 'philosophical' difference between him and Shapiro.

it's going to be interesting to see over the coming months if we gradually learn what philosophical differences led to this decision by Alex

assuming it wasn't all about autonomy, that is

It was revealed by SportingNews that AA was voted as the MLB Exec of the Year by his peers while his conference call was ongoing :lol :lol

Sign Heyward. Not too often that 5 WAR 26 year old OF becomes available. He is hitting his prime and will pair nicely with Harper in a few years.

Open your wallet, Hal.

No GM, no manager (since realistically, the new GM will want his or her guy in that job, which probably doesn't bode well for Gibbons)...not exactly a great starting point for any free agent.

Unless the position is filled by a promotion.

But Price signing with the Jays as a FA was always a long shot. People were excited that we got him to be sure, but everyone was pretty well aware that it was likely just a high priced rental.

I didn't just mean Price -- I meant any major free agent. I think most would want to know what they're getting into before signing somewhere, so the beginning of free agency isn't the best time to be going through a GM and manager search.

Though considering how Rogers seems to enjoy meddling/botching things, maybe it's for the best that he's not out there, whining and dining Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley just because he's heard of them.

Was about to post this myself.

It's hilarious and sad. Dude had a legendary trade deadline.

Josh Donaldson was named Sporting News' MLB player of the year.

He did. But much like the A's a year ago, he spent a lot for what he thought was his best chance at winning a title.

Granted, he probably did better than Billy did, getting Donaldson with some years left. But obviously Shapiro wasn't a fan of paying so much to get one big time shot.

I doubt the Jays have a regression next year like the A's did this year. They have far too much talent not to compete for another playoff spot next year. But AA did spend a lot of the future.

AA will get a good gig. I bet the good folks in Seattle are kinda pissed they signed Dipoto a month ago now.

CQ, totally agree.

The only thing I'd add is that AA's deadline moves were also born of desperation as much as anything else. If they Jays missed the playoffs yet again, he likely doesn't get an extension and leaves the team with a very average record as GM.

Also: Griffin is reporting that the sticker was that Shapiro wants to have veto power over trades, which apparently was too many 'rules' for AA (and Griffin).

How that's worse than Beeston's FA rules, bonesmccoy does not know.

I was shocked to wake up and see the news about Anthopoulos. I'm saddened by it, too, because I really liked the guy.

Here's hoping this won't hurt the team going forward.
