Legendary year. I miss this level of quality and competition.

Most of those have not aged well. I would only go back to Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, Silent Hill 2, and Devil May Cry as part of series retrospectives and likely force myself to finish them.

P.S. I am currently playing Max Payne but I doubt I will replay it.

These nostalgia threads have a whole different meaning for me now after the Zommer and Bommer thread.

I personally enjoy the nostalgia but can't shake the feeling now, it is the nostalgia for 24 years ago that is keeping this board trapped in the past.

What's crazy is 2001 was the start of an absolute onslaught of GOAT games. Not just GOTY, not just best in genre, but some of the best all time games that rank today. Incredible generation to grow up with.

Some other excellent games from that year, not mentioned in the video:

Ace Combat 4
Advance Wars
Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance
Luigi's Mansion
Paper Mario
Phantasy Star Online

Alternatively, those years actually were significantly better for gaming in a lot of ways, for reasons that people can and have outlined ad nauseum.

Pointing to nostalgia as the sole reason for these kinds of threads and calling it a day is lazy and, frankly, stupid.

"Its not Nostalgia if you can back it up, or something like that."

Just been checking out the 2001 release scheduele on wiki and I dunno why but I kinda put things into perspective.

End of the year was packed but the rest of said year was quite lukewarm.
The most funny thing to notice is that MGS2 sold better than GTA3. LOL, how times have changed.
