Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate - Demo out [Updated: FAQ and Help]

Dark Souls has a pretty decent entry into the game. MH intro is always super awkward. Also, Souls doesn't feel clunky in the control department. The controls are good in MH, but they "feel" super clunky because the animations are so long, and most are uncancelable. Its just naturally less intuitive.

I wouldn't call them clunky, they're entirely appropriate in terms of balancing the difficulty.

The greatsword probably rewards total mastery of a monster more than any other weapon, but is tough to use effectively even for a veteran player if you don't know the monster. I say 'monster' and not the weapon itself because you need to intricately learn the behaviors of the individual enemy before you can do this kind of thing.

*laugh* I completly forgot about this video! God, this guy is good.

I'm facing the wrong way, but.....GOTCHA BITCH!!!

Poured about 500 hours across mhp, mhp2nd, and 2ndG, skipped tri and 3rd, played a bit of frontier. Just got in a preorder for this thanks to that deal amazon's doing. Looking forward to wasting another 150-200 hours on this one too.

Thanks for the input, guys!

Not sure how they've changed the balancing, because they do every iteration, but generally the sword and shield / longsword movesets are the easiest to ease you into the game with. IMO hammer is easily the most/second most effective weapon type in the game for most monsters, but persisting and playing with the greatsword will make you a much, much better player overall, especially once you hit G rank monsters.

First off, you can make all the different weapons you want. You can switch between missions.

Just try out everything. The sword and shield is the easiest weapon for a new player, but you never know what's going to click with you.

Here's some more great sword awesome. Really cool stuff.

the animations are long and uncancelable by design, you're supposed to be cautious with your decisions, knowing when to drink that potion, lay that trap, or end your attack combo early so you can dodge and not get damaged

edit: not exactly sure if you're complaining about the controls / animations or not

Thought I made it pretty obvious that I know that. However, this means jack shit to someone trying the demo. It just looks and FEELS clunky, period. It

Here's what I would change to make MH for the west,

1. No more zones or zonewalls. Every map is 100% seamless. Increase the sense of exploration. The town is the central hub, with multiple paths out to different areas. Grabing quests just makes the appropriate monster guaranteed to show up. see NPC hunters as you traverse the areas, join them in hunts, get subquests from them. Enhance the illusion of a real world.
2. A real intro with a NPC vetran hunter taking you on quests. Simulating multiplayer, gradually taking you through hunting, cooking, fishing, mining, and then prey and dromes.
3. A new default weapon in the vein of SNS that has much faster animations, with lower damage, but tons of support and ease of use / quality of life bonuses for the player and their party. It also gives a huge bonus to the cats. I.E. it gives you innate fast eating, fast sharpen, automap, autotracker, +hp/stamina.
4. More production values. Voice acting from the NPCs, better UI, especially for item use and ammo. No reason this cant be a context sensitive radial menu.
5. A real offline campaign that actually bring the casuals into the world.

I don't want you to touch my Monster Hunter at ALL. :p

Capcom streaming soon, I guess...

Awesome, thanks for the heads up.

That video is definitely cool, but it's basically the same concept as watching a CoD montage of someone doing no look-360-one shot-headshot-quick scopes or whatever all the cool kids do these days. You know it took him probably a thousand hunts to get each of those hits.

That video while cool, isn't really something a new player should use as a tool to help them learn how to use the GS.

But ya, that is definitely a classic when it comes to Tri videos. The timing on the Rathalos circle fly dive bomb one is amazing.

You can't free hunt in the different areas right? Only Moga Woods?

while it's true that you can only truly freehunt in moga. you can (later on) get tickets (aka. missions) to do free hunt (aka, 50 mins.)in every other region.

at least that the way it worked in tri. gonna guess it hasn't changed so much.

You can't re download a demo to get 30 plays again? That is pretty devious.

I think they are being refilled over time. Last year I used up all but one try for the heroes of ruin demo. A few month ago I redownloaded it to enjoy my last try with some frinds via multiplayer and suddenly I had at least 2 more tries left than previously.

For some reason I never cared for Hammer in Tri but I've been using it like crazy in this demo. I think I might switch from Switch Axe to this.

Tried out the bowgun but I couldn't wrap my head around it, I guess I should check out some vids.

So tell me what I did wrong. I shot my poison arrows constantly Lagombi and it never got poisoned. I only had 10 minutes left and I just quitted.

I want to branch out from hammer as my main from tri so I want to learn the Bow so please help. Also help me please with learning the Hunting Horn. I want to be a support class online but still bash heads.

You have to deal poison damage over a set period of time to inflict the status.

Edit: I think it has to be done within a certain period, but I'm not sure. :/

You're probably not applying the coating. When you have the bow out, press X+A to apply the coating to your arrows.

^^^^^^ You're probably right.

Did you fully charge the shot? It will be far more effective that way. Doing arc shots also helps. In order to do that, you fully charge your shot by holding X and then pressing A. An arc shot causes a rain of fire and it will increase the number of hits for the status effect.

It was this. I assumed they were already coated. When the coating wasn't depleting I also assumed they just removed that for demo purposes.

THIS IS WHY I DON'T USE BOWS AND BOWGUNS. I'm too stupid.

Just bought the circle pad pro for my 3ds. Guess I should have asked if it worked on my 3ds xl. Q_Q. Now I had to import the xl version from Japan :/

I didn't know this, no wonder my bow never did shit. lol

You guys should give this video a look. It'll give you a good idea about bow strategy, causing exhaust and what sort of attacks you'll want to be doing. Probably don't want to start with Ples when you're learning it though. I prefer ranged weapons while I'm playing with my team and stick with my Hammer / SA on my own.

!!!

But the MH3 demo didn't hurt its sales, so maybe we are just over reacting, lol.

It didn't help either I feel. It would have not hurt the experience at all to show transfer over the combat tutorials that are in the main game after picking your weapon. Or show a splash screen of the controller listing the actual controls. There isn't even that. The demo tosses you into the deep end of the pool.

They have a Monster Hunter youtube channel as well. They could easily put up some quick tutorials.

At this point I don't think they care about really expanding Monster Hunter outside of the small following it has outside of Japan and anyone willing to give it a try on blind faith. They just need to stop refusing to properly explain the game to people and I think things would change for the better.

I think I like hammers!

Also tried the 3DS demo now too, the L to flip camera behind your character works surprisingly well. Maybe I'm just use to it from other games but I like it a lot, just a shame I still don't really like the 3DS pad for 'intense moving 3D' games as much as the Wii U's stick.

If it wasn't for that I'd honestly say the 3DS one might be easier to play. :\ Crazy.

Button placement is just nicer, I'm still getting use to where the face buttons are on the Wii U Pro controller thing.

So me and my buds are playing some MH3 on the PSP in anticipation for Ultimate.
Gotta say I'm having a blast in MP, clawing the camera isn't the best but it works. Can't wait to play with a group in ultimate online.

Anyone having an issue launching the demo? I get the screen after launching but get an error code 1-0001. Please turn off the console.

Are you running it off a harddrive? Some people appeared to have been given the code when they're using a drive that won't function with the Wii U. Could just be a general error could though. If nothing else, you could always delete it and redownload.

I am running it off a hard drive. Its a hard drive out of my laptop and placed in a case with a y cable. Guess I can try other ways.

Who?

But anyway, I just tried this, took me 16min using poison arrows, I forgot to use bombs though.

So yeah... I think we need the full game, lol.

I don't know who it is, I would assume it's Yuri? Here is a link: http://www.twitch.tv/capcomunity/b/371356521

Starts at around the 41:00 mark.

I tried it myself using the Close Range coating and got it just above 10 minutes (used bombs at the start, though I'm not sure whether it hit or not). I guess that is effective for melee with a bow.

I swear there is something gimpy about the GS setup in the demo. All the other weapons I try I can get the easy one done in under 5 minutes on my first or second try. Just now after using the GS maybe 10-12 times am I getting close to the 5 minute mark but it was usually at the 10-12 minute mark. I still haven't beat Pleso with the GS.

I have over 200 hours with the GS on Tri so I kinda know what I'm doing too. But what's happening in the demo here is it seems like the GS puts the monsters in Rage mode so much more than the other weapons. All the other weapons I get rage mode maybe twice, but with the GS it's almost constant rage mode. It's like every triple charge I get on them puts them in rage mode.

This leads to the rabbit constantly body surfing around, making it take longer to kill because I'm constantly running after it, and Pleso constantly tail swiping over and over and doing it's belly flop wiggle across half the land making me run after him constantly.

I'm 2 for 2 on beating Pleso with the hammer because he's barely ever in rage mode and getting tired a lot. But I'm 0 for 4 with the GS since I just run out of time. I get Pleso limping with the GS, but then he just goes from 10 to 11 over and over and I spend that last 5 minutes just chasing him around instead of getting a chance to get more shots in. With the hammer he never limped, I just killed him fast enough.

So, Any other GS users finding it not as effective in the demo as other weapons? Or is it just me?

It might be just you. I can down Lagombi in ~5mins and Plesioth in about 10 with the Greatsword. Just keep at it!

Does the HDD case have its own power supply? I recall the manual recommending only HDDs with their own power. I'd guess it's probably got something to do with your HDD setup though. Have you run any other Wii U games on it?

This is my first time playing a Monster Hunter game, and I'm fairly impressed. I liked the little details after attacking that rabbit monster, like with how it eventually started limping after I attacked its legs enough. What I think I like the most about the demo is how the monster can escape into the different zones, with me having the chase after it; it really makes it feel like a hunt!

Now, the only question I have so far; I'm getting the retail Wii U version of this. Is it going to kill my disc drive with how much switching between zones I'll have to do?

I main GS and I can do Lagombi in under 5 mins before he even leaves the first screen.

Just keep practicing. I find GS to be one of the fastest weapons. DB and LS are also very fast.

That worked, now to learn all these note combos.

edit: So I'm assuming certain Horns have certain notes. As in each horn has three notes?

If I'd had to guess, certain Horns have certain effects, but they probably share songs.

Or, songs always give a specific effect, but not every Horn can play every song. A song in this case being a note combination.

...Let's ask someone who's played with them before.
