I hated the Ceadeus fight too. I only ever made the chest pieces for that set and paired it with some torso up parts.
Considering how often I've dissected your butt with one, I can understand.
This is good advice. For example, I always use the Long Sword on Gobul because he's big and fat, so I'm not going to trip anyone and can go wild. He also tends to not do very much for long periods of time, so you can go all-in on him. I usually Lance Jho because he's constantly attacking, so the counter comes in handy. I Hammer Alatreon because I can KO him a lot and it helps get Sky Piercers, but if there's a good Hammer user in the party I'll go with a status up para SnS because he's weak to it and it helps the team more than a second hammer. There are soooooo many options, and there are a lot of good ones. I would never hammer Barioth, but I'll SnS him all day to keep the bastard still. SnS is actually one of my favorite weapon types because I like to be a team player, and every time I paralyze the monster it feels really good.
I don't know much about the new weapon types, though. I don't see why someone would SnS if they could Dual Sword (at a glance).
Just putting this out there, dual swords are super OP. Were they always this powerful?
Yes, especially elemental ones.

They were sorta UP in gen 2 because it they dull very fast and was pretty reliant on Demonize/stamina. The only monster they were best at were Chameleos (sub 5 mins with a 4-team DS) and a particular Fatalis. The usual method was to just drink juices then Demonize.Just putting this out there, dual swords are super OP. Were they always this powerful?
Just keep attacking his ass and watch out for his backwards butt attack. If he stands and stretches up, he'll do it.Okay, so that Lagombi keeps kicking my ass. What are some of the cues I should be looking for?
You should. KOing Barioth is even more satisfying than paralyzing it.I would never hammer Barioth, but I'll SnS him all day to keep the bastard still. SnS is actually one of my favorite weapon types because I like to be a team player, and every time I paralyze the monster it feels really good.
I wonder if we'll be able to use items with the weapon out without having to block first. I believe that was only possible in Tri with the Wiimote/Nunchuk controls and that's gone now.SnS lets you use items with your weapon out and the Shield can save your ass in a pinch.
This port just impresses me so much. One of the best looking Wii titles almost intact, running great with 3D (pretty weak effect though, I prefer leaving off) and still smooth. I think I might even prefer this version visually, since shadows more than make up for the low res textures. This game just looks leagues better than Monster Hunter 4.
Anyway, I still haven't decided if I'll get this. My concern is if there's new content enough for people who already played Tri to death.
I don't KO him, I just get knocked around. :-( Even with all the time I put into the game, he hits me more than anything else out there. Only Lagiacrus comes close because of the damn underwater stuff. You should. KOing Barioth is even more satisfying than paralyzing it.
I believe you just became a Member, sir. Grats!I definitely think it's enough, just check out the the MH3U list and compare it to MHTri's. (56 vs 18 monsters)

Hmm, that's quite the difference. I don't want to click the wiki and spoil myself though, could you please tell me how many of the new monsters are actually made from scratch instead of being reeskins? Also, how many new areas?
2 (new monsters) + 9 (old monsters) + 22 (subspecies) + 18 (MHTri originals) = 51, so clearly you're holding 5 monsters out on us!There are 2 new monsters that have never been in any previous MH games. There are 9 monsters that didn't appear in MHTri that are in MH3U. And there are 22 subspecies. All monsters in MHTri are coming back.
I'm surprised they didn't add Kirin back in. With the amount of...art dedicated to the outfit it provides, you'd think Capcom could take a hint. Plus it's rather a unique creature.
That's unfortunate. The only way to complete a style is to add some oddities to it.I read some where that they were trying for a different look and feel thats a bit more cohesive in it's third generation. Maybe Kirin didnt fit the bill when deciding on which monsters to return?

Not that I should worry about that, I've been trying to stay as spoiler-free as possible about any of the monsters in this.
can any1 confirm that the circle pad pro will work with monster hunter on 3ds?
Yes, the feature is just not available in the demo.
Oh gj cacpcom, dildo-head horsy is not cool enough but triple green gooey penis monster is in? Wtf?!I read some where that they were trying for a different look and feel thats a bit more cohesive in it's third generation. Maybe Kirin didnt fit the bill when deciding on which monsters to return?
Dude, the absolute best advice I can give you on weapons is....
Go with your heart.
Too melodramatic? lol. Just saying, pick a weapon YOU like. Fuck what other people think or are using. You are going to spend a lot of time with that weapon so make sure it's something you want to use.
I only used GS in Tri for my entire ~600 or hours and I loved it. Don't feel compelled to use more then 1 weapon if you don't want to. It's not like an MMO where "the raid needs a healer" or "party looking for a tank" and if you don't fit the bill you have to gtfo. Any party combination of the 12 weapons will do fine. Game is based more on skill with a weapon then which particular weapon you are using.
anyway, remember to pick the weapon that you want to use. You'll end up having a lot more fun.

Isn't it true that generally it's going to be advantageous to have a source of impact damage for breaking the head and a source of cutting damage for cutting the tail? And in a four person group, it's probably going to be nice to have at least one ranged person to minimize the number of people clumped up around the monster?
It's no MMO, but roles and advantageous party setups still exist. But it's not the difference between success and failure, it's "oh darn, we all picked hammers, there's not room for all of us at the head and I guess we're not getting a piece of that tail."
Can someone confirm if you can chain a counter to the end of a triple-stab combo when using the Lance in MH3U?
Tri was my first MonHun (800+ hours) and I'm playing through MHP3rd HD at the moment, in which the Lance appears to have been nerfed, as you can only chain a counter onto the first two stabs. This results in you no longer feeling like a one-hunter squad of ultimate bad-asses, as you're open to getting completely creamed when doing a triple-stab. Deviljho will never be the same in MHP3rd, as in Tri with Guard+1/+2 you can stand under him and use him as a pincushion, timing the counters perfectly to soak up his tailspins and bites.
It's probably pointless to put in Kirin because they stole the kirin armor and gave it to that arctic Narga wannabe.I read some where that they were trying for a different look and feel thats a bit more cohesive in it's third generation. Well, it's really three if you count the new town and the 3FU area.Only one new area is disappointing. :/
Generally does everyone bring bombs and traps to every fight with the intent to use them, or are they more special occasion type things because they're annoying to farm up etc.?
I guess to some extent you would have to think to yourself, ok, we've died twice already and haven't done much damage, I won't waste them on this fight...vs. everybody using all their bombs and traps at the start to try to burn down the monster quickly, and hoping you won't die shortly afterward.

You always bring them because there's no reason not to have them on hand, but you only use them if you need to, you're doing a capture quest, you want to rush the fight, or you're OCD.Generally does everyone bring bombs and traps to every fight with the intent to use them, or are they more special occasion type things because they're annoying to farm up etc.?
You have to detonate it. Unless the monster uses attacks that collide with barrels, like a fireball.Talking about bomb, how this work?
I've put a bomb (look like a barrel) and bring the monster to run ovre it and noting happen.

Hey guys, should i feel guilty about continuously killing the Felynes in A4? It's my first MH so I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing :|
naw, the felynes are annoying so kill away, although the point of the demo is to fight the main monster
Always bring traps since they are easier to use than bombs and because you always want the option of capturing a weakened monster if the timer runs low or if the group already fainted twice. Always bring Tranqs for this same reason.Generally does everyone bring bombs and traps to every fight with the intent to use them, or are they more special occasion type things because they're annoying to farm up etc.?
You could buy Thunderbugs from the little boy online in Tri. 750z when they were available at normal price, 350z on Jhen days. Once I get a bunch of zenny, I stock up on them when they're half price. Pitfalls were actually more annoying since you had to do bug hunts and swap Monster Fluid for Spiderwebs.Well, in Tri I used Shock Traps only when needed, since thunder bugs couldn't be "farmed" (I heard it's now possible to "farm" them in 3U). I'd rather use Pitfall Trap because of that. As for the bombs, I only used them for sleep-bombing Alatreon and when fishing Gobul (which, conveniently, would always fall at the same spot when fished, allowing us to bomb him easily).
