Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate - Demo out [Updated: FAQ and Help]

It's not a lock-on; all it does is re-center the camera onto the monster when you tap L. It doesn't stay on them or anything.
Well yea whatever it is. I wasnt expecting it to lock on zelda style. I just wanted to know how to use it. Thankyou I wasnt even pressing L with it before I just tapped the symbol.

Am I imagining things or did they nerf the long sword? I checked the digital instruction book to be sure I'm not missing anything, but it seems it's moveset has been reduced. Or I'm doing it wrong, because I can't use any standard attacks except stabbing/slashing forward and backing off, while I'm pretty sure you could wield the thing in any direction and hence keep the flow better in Tri.

OK, I think I understand what you mean now. Just used the Long Sword on Lagombi and I felt there was something missing. I just did lots of forward slashes and stabs. Only can do a sideslash with X+A or doing the chain attack. But I still feel the longsword is a good weapon and I pretty much was attacking non-stop.

I'm glad the game has 5.1 sound. It's helpful from time to time.

Plus, it just sounds better. So many hours of Nintendo Land and NSMB U with nothing but stereo...

Great Sword has the most powerful attack in the game. That's kinda it's thing, slow but powerful. If you noticed while using it that you can charge it up, it has 3 charges, if you time it right at the right time after the third charge you'll get the most powerful attack in the game.

With the Great Sword your going to want to focus on the Draw version of that charge attack. If you just do the combo attack with it, you're "doing it wrong". Focus on getting in the right position, with your sword sheathed, then start the charge attack and time it perfectly and you will be doing massive damage.

The Great Sword is a ton of fun when you learn the monsters patterns and can time that perfect triple charge draw attack.

Don't just go swinging away randomly with it, that'll get you nowhere. Always use the charge attack. Even a single charge or double charge will be good, but try to get the triple charge and release at the correct time for the 'super charge'. It's kinda like figuring out the boost at the start of Mario Kart games to get that super charge. Their are visual cues though and you'll hear a sound if you get it.

Thanks for the tips bud! I definitely didn't pick up on that all the first time through. Will give the good ole great sword another whirl

can someone explain me how to use the 3ds cppro with the demo? I still refuse to waste a use of it without knowing if that will help, I see nothomg on the options

I think they made a mistake putting Plesioth in the demo. A major reason for putting out demo is to attract new players. I've never experienced a more off-putting thing in a demo, at least in recent memory. It's just so new player unfriendly. I'll still grab this game because the first fight was good and I'm really interested in MH, but it cemented the fact I'm getting the Wii-U version. Just a horribly frustrating fight.

Use the shortcut from camp. Look west while you're in camp and you'll see water. Jump in and swim toward the cave below and you'll be transported pretty close to the beach. Will cut down on a lot of time spent walking.

Thank you!

Press A to fire. Check the manual for full controls. Also, this is the shortcut EvilMario is talking about: http://youtu.be/26p-nbRxXjQ?t=1m19s

And thank you!

Also I think the bow is going to be a no-go for me. It's a nightmare to use. I couldn't even kill Lagombi with it.

When you're on the map with a monster, click on the monster icon on the touch screen. Tapping the L shoulder button will then swing the camera around to focus on the monster, rather than just repositioning it behind you. Incredibly helpful under water.

Thank you so much.

I'm a huge stickler for camera control, and because of this lock-on I will probably be getting the 3DS version too now :D All I really needed was a way to refocus, and this fixes all my problems really

I'm a commuter, so the cross-play is huge for me.

I'm still undecided if I want this on Wii U or 3DS.

The Wii U version has online play, but the 3DS version is portable. Not sure =/. I liked both to be honest.

Isn't that the whole point of having two monsters in the demo? One is the 'easy' one for beginners to see what the game is about and the other one is the 'hard' one for MH vets to play around with?

I didn't see they were labeled "Easy" and "Hard" so I sort of take that statement back. It makes more sense now. I still think that fight sucks on 3DS.

Just played the 3DS demo, which is my first foray into the MH series. I was definitely 'hazed' into the series, so to speak. Definitely a sharp learning curve as far as I can tell.

I really really really hate the thumbpad as it mucks up my screen, but so be it.

Jury's out on whether I'll purchase, but I want to give the demo a few more tries before I really set myself into either camp.

Box under on screen dpad.
Press it when you arrive at the same area as the monster.
Press L to see what it does now.

MH veteran here and I was shocked how good the monster re-centre felt.

No problem. There is so much about each weapon type that I'm sure a lot of the new players to the series are missing out on while trying the demo for the first time. Things like hammer users should be aiming for the head and doing the pound attack instead of swings. Etc.

A lot of the depth of the game comes from mastering the weapon types and not just running in and smashing the attack button.

Lagombi is easy??? That thing wouldn't die no matter how many times I hit him, even when he looked pretty wounded. Only killed him near the end.

Loved both versions, but with the 3DS I definitely would need the frankenstick. Turning around whenever I dodged Lagombi was a chore.

Wii U version is day 1.

how do i use the barrel bombs?

I assume you mean what the use is. It is pretty much used for extra damage, but I didn't know how to word a more detailed explanation, but here is something from forumotion:
Behaviour:
->After placing the large barrel bomb will sit there, unassuming, until something hits it and causes it to explode. It deals a large amount of damage and ignores a monsters defense stat for that particular body piece. You can place 2 at a time and you can only carry 3 to a quest.

Usage:
You use a large barrel bomb by placing it somewhere in an area that you feel can cause a monster some pain. See the "Tactics" section below. To trigger a large barrel bomb you hit it with something in your pouch (stone, paintball, etc...), hit it with a weapon (note: NOT recommended) , shoot it with a bowgun, or trigger it with a small barrel bomb. Certain monster attacks will trigger it, but very few. Most charge attacks do NOT trigger them, so assume you have to trigger them yourself. After a long time (a minute or so) the barrels will explode, so be wary of a rogue large barrel bomb just sitting there.

How do you use powders on the arrows?

X+A Check the manual for controls.

First time into monster hunter, and I've downloaded both but still only played the wii u demo..

Holy hell I went bow first time and I keep getting wrecked.. I somehow figured out how to put the poison coatings and it still did nothing to lagombi..

I wish this demo showed me what the controls are lol

Lagombi is basically a fluffy alpha raptor compared to some of the monsters from the core MH3, let alone what they have in store for us with the Ultimate content.

Oh wow, I didn't know there were intricacies like that. I was just kinda slicing Lagombi wherever I could with the switch-axe.

I thought it was kinda hard playing it on 3DS. The auto-aim makes it a bit easier, but it's still hard to hit the enemies close-range for me.
Seems fun though, but I'll have to spend more time with it.

So, it seems like MultiPlayer will be all but required to get any real enjoyment out of this game, am I right? Playing it single player, Lombi fight was fun but I really felt like I could have used a friend for some of the actually hard stuff.

Wooot!

Plasioth down! Hammered the shit out of this fucker! but the hammer in the demo I'd waaaay to blunt. could only hit head, feet and belly for massive damage.

he's quite good underwater but a freaking loser on land. makes sense though.

I managed to beat Lagombi on my first try, with dual swords (which I never used before), but I'm a MH Tri veteran. Truth to be told, this bear is surfing like crazy, and can get very tricky (you thought I was going to stop after my second charge ? WRONG !).

It's a rabbit. :p

Woooo! Played this game for the first time (well, the demo). And I have to say it's quite nice lol. Lagombi was quite easy, killed it on my first try with sword and shield. I eventually tried the first row of weapons. Gotta say I love the hammer, and damn the greatsword is hard to use!
