I kinda feel bad about asking for help on this question as I'm having problems with the algebra part of it, not the calc. :(

OK, I have a bounded area of x = 0, x = 10, y = .15x^2, y = -x+10. What I want to do is find the area in the "bow-tie" section of said graph. I know how to do the area part, it's actually the one of the first things so far that came easily to me. The problem is that to find the area I need to know the intervals, which means I need to find out at what point .15x^2 is equal to -x+10 OR when .15x^2+x-10 = 0. I've tried a few different tricks to factoring but I can't seem to get it to work.

many thanks in advance.

Don't factor -- use the quadratic formula. For a quadratic equation in the form ax² + bx + c = 0, the roots are given by

In this case, a = 0.15, b = 1, and c = -10. Reject any values for x outside the valid region [0, 10].

Are you calling yourself the rock elite?

Radiohead should've seriously given up after Amnesiac. Hail to the Thief is an obvious sign of a band that's out of ideas. I dread hearing their impending catastrophe.

I don't know! Are YOU calling YOURSELF the ROCK ELITE?

Lots of bands should've given up after a certain point, but they didn't. Radiohead continues to put out songs that are unlike things they've done in the past, even if they are less frequent, they STILL DO IT. Myxomatosis and A Wolf at the Door, love or hate them, are very different songs.

You only sense impending catastrophe because you're biased.

10 years from now when indie bands can't even release an album and bands that worship Linkin Park like Oasis rips off The Beatles are the only things you can buy in the rock section, I don't wanna hear you complain sir.

Now go back to being elite!!!

I listen to more interesting bands than Radiohead on a daily basis. Not my problem that boring dopes like you can't expand your horizons.

That said, Kid A and Amnesiac are masterpieces. Shame Radiohead blew their load so fast.

Oh yeah, dude. They blew their load SO FAST - during the time period that was about half of Pablo Honey being good, and then The Bends, OK Computer, Kid A and Amnesiac which were absolutely flawless. Yeah, that's about 10 years right there. Man, they really blew their load FAST.

Give the band another chance.

Kid A and Amnesiac are their creative zenith, IMO. OK Computer was a favorite of mine when I was younger, but it doesn't really do much for me anymore. So yeah, they went from making two really incredible albums to putting out their worst album (maybe equal to Pablo Honey) just a year or two later. It's a sign of something.
