Mortal Kombat's Lewis Tan Reveals How Gruesome Fatalities Are in Reboot (Movie)

Flawless Victory.

”Let me just say this, there were some days on set that I felt sick. I'm not kidding." Tan added, "They did not... They did not hold back."

"I can say for sure that the fatalities that we're gonna put into the film are from the game. We're not going to come up with some new things that we haven't seen before, but at the same time, if we're going to do it to use that device, we want to make sure that it's not just in there just to be in there and have that point to the story," Russo explained. "So everything will always have that point to what's happening in the story, that it will feel awesome and badass, but it's going to play a role, you know, it's not just going to be there just to be showy."

Russo added, "In terms of the content, yeah. I mean we're ... I think there's always a thin line, you know, you don't want to be over the top, right? With your violence and I don't know that that's really going to put people off. I'm not sure that's even necessary. So you want to be truthful, but you also don't want to be so ridiculous and gratuitous that you may turn people off in the wrong way. So I would just say that it's going to be faithful to the games and it's going to earn it's R-rating."

I'm sure all the men will be prancing around in trunks and all the women will be wearing bodysuits just like in the newest game.
Gore good.
Female sexuality bad.

This is Mortal Kombat we're talking about. I don't know if he played Mortal Kombat.

Exactly what I was thinking.

This really does sound excellent!!

CGI is awful it it says they want to use practical effects as much as possible, which for me is where REAL cinema is at. CGI heavy would be a cop put, and frankly is what I would have expected given the OTT nature the game has become but I am glad they are putting effort into making fatalities feel brutal and more realistic. Good to see love poured into it, maybe with cinemas shutting directors will not have to compromise their film for a pathetic family friendly rating in fear of losing sales.

I hope we could get a game to match the feel of the new film. Man I would love to direct one of the these games! I think there is much more genuine and lasting shock value to be had with 'less is more'. The older, less ridiculous MK and SF games are the best, now it's all flair and flamboyance and it ruins it somewhat imo. MK11 fighting-feel is truly on point though. Feels meaty and weighty - you can really feel simple punches and kicks so I would LOVE a more realistic, less camp game to match.

They're saying all the right things.

A hyper violent MK movie inspired by the combat in The Raid films but also incorporating the supernatural elements of the franchise and crazy lore could be awesome if done well.

I still find it hard to be too optimistic though as it could also go terribly wrong.
