Seems pointless to keep a small chunk lol. 😂

Just kick em out and let them keep the IP like you did with the others.

That's the main reason they probably didn't - one bad doom game isn't enough to fully gut them.

The only reason they didn't sell them is because they want the IP to send us a never ending stream on contractor-made Doom and Quake games. I'm quite sure Asha think she can minmax and optimize a studio capable of producing classics on a regular basics. Think about it.

If this is true, it must be the most insane decision in the world of gaming since.. Yeah, I don't even know.

Yep. MS is an AI company and Asha is an AI exec. They are planning on using call center workers and AI to generate a bunch of Unreal slop games.

Microslop wants their IP's or otherwise they'd sell them like Undead Labs and Ninja Theory. One of the worst outcomes imaginable.

Yes. She will try to use the same tools they use in other tech sectors, and I'm sure you guys can imagine how that's gonna go.

We don't have time for lazy people in America to spend 8 years making a game. The quest for one billion gamers demands it.

They could have at least tried to sell them or let them go independent like the other studios.

This sucks, ID is one of the only MS devs I gave a shit about, and an absolutely legendary studio.

Dark Ages was underwhelming, but still pretty good IMO.

This is what happens when you get someone with no industry background leading a change initiative.

They take a look at the high performers like King and Mojang and wonder why everyone else isn't on the same train.

"We spent X hundred mill for Y? Candy Crush had a better ROI per dollar invested!"

Now we'll get Candy Crush Doom Edition.

Do more with less is the "new" trend. It would appear like they were closing down with that many people being laid off, but imo they are keeping the key people and laying off everyone else, the "survivors" as they call it and probably under a new name, that's what they did where I work anyways.

This really sucks. I mean thank fuck they didnt close them but still this is a Legendary studio, responsible for the birth of FPS games.

I know The Dark Ages underperformed but you would think any studio would get a couple of strikes before they are out (so to speak).

All this is making me think Satya basically told Xbox that they need to bring in significant profits or Xbox is done, and basically some 'hard decisions' are having to be made.

If you've laid off over 70% of the developers, they're not the same studio anymore. This news is shutting them down in all but name.

Asha hasn`t got the slightest clue what she`s doing. She`s literally just halving excel balance sheets.....
Just for that I´ll never buy anything with an Xbox logo on it ever again...well, not that I would have anyways, but now I´ll not do it with more conviction.

I'm part of the problem, I want that.

Well it depends doesnt it. If the layoffs are just low level artists or new comers (as in last in, first out), and most of the longer more important ID people are being kept, then its still ID.
Obviously as a new game starts getting in deeper development, staff will be hired, or staff from other studios help out etc.

As long as the 'backbone' of ID is still there then long term this COULD not have a major effect.

I'm assuming obviously and trying to look positively.

With cuts this deep how do they even decide who to keep rather than just shutting the studio down? Is this just a PR thing to avoid the headline that the closed them?
