Most Wanted DS Beat Em Ups

first off, i think Technos, Capcom, and Konami should really get started on some beat em ups. Sega too.

i'd like to see some online Combatribes, Double Dragon, Punisher, and pretty much whatever any of those devs would want to throw at me.

the system is clearly capable of making some bone crunching 2D beat em ups.

what would you like to see? what type of features?

can't argue with that. although there is still 2 screens.

what do you think a new 2 screen Streets of Rage would be like?

Meh...why not just wait for the XBL Arcade releases or possibly the Rev classic stuff? I'd rather not play BEUs on that control scheme, anyway...they might be tempted to pollute the execution with touchy-feely crap.

I'd much rather see BEU games on the PSP, since the wide screen would benefit the genre so well. It could even do The Ninjawarriors some justice.

Right now I just want another Double Dragon remake. Double Dragon Advance was so good; where's the sequel?

DS is pretty unsuited to a beat-em up. Tiny screen, awkward buttons, touch screen would add nothing. The most i can think of is a version of that Rag Doll Kung-fu.

PSP however, would be a marvel for any side-scrolling beat 'em up because there is simply more screen.

I really want to try that Viewtiful Joe game...beu right?

Rag Doll Kung Fu would be great.

I would have liked to have seen a more direct sequel to Guardian Heroes on this rather than gba. Actually, I would like to see Treasure move to the DS period.

Most Wanted DS BEUs? Who wants BEUs on the DS in the first place?

I mean, if they're there, they're there (and some games being pointed out are more side-scrolling action, not BEU), but quit posing hypothetical situations in order to validate the vestigial functions of an inferior handheld.

"There's 2 screens! It must mean TWICE THE FUN!"

Star Wars Ep 3 just goes to show the kind of great beat em ups the system is capable of. Every bit as good as the old TMNT games IMO.

DS is suited for BEU like the next console is. It probably won´t benefit of the special features of the console (after the developer throuws in some creativity), but then again, DS is a console with multiple posibilities, and one of the is use a traditional setup. Like in Mario Kart, it doesn´t matter if the damn game doesn´t use all the console new features if it´s a good game. One year after its release, I can´t see how people still tries to justify the new features. They are there and some games benefit from them and some others don´t. It´s all about possibilities, you know.

So, why releaseing it on the DS. Maybe because it´s the handheld that is selling best?

I'd like to see a 2D or 2.5D game use the DS screens for depth, kinda like Tomba!, and you could leap from multiple paths on different screens. With 2.5D games, you could do some fancy branching paths and shit.

If it can't benefit from the vestigial feature of the DS, then why not make it for a system who's unique features CAN be taken advantage of?

Like I said, if the BEUs on the DS, what can I do about it? Nothing. But in no way would I associate said genre and handheld going together.

Again, maybe because the userbase for this console is bigger than the other console you´re talking about? Seriously, just because BEUs won´t be any better on the DS than on the PSP doesn´t mean DS owners don´t derserve to play BEUs. Do you realize that PS2 games such as DMC3 would´ve benefit from being released on the Cube or the Xbox? instead they were released in a less powerful hardware. I didn´t see the haters complaning that it should have never appeared in a system that cannot make the game potentially better.

Streets of Rage Trilogy Online
Final Fight Trilogy Online
Ninja Turtles Arcade Double Pack Online (with bonus home versions thrown in (both snes and genesis)
Double Dragon Collection Online

The above would make me very happy.

Difference being, the leap from PS2 to Xbox/Cube is a baby step.

The difference between the technology in the PSP and the DS is pretty massive.

As a fan of Final Fight I have to agree with Lyte Edge's crazy thinking. Wider screen = more stuff to punch! ROX!

The point is: the console with bigger userbase needs no real reason to why games are released on it. Also, we´ve been playing BEUs for ages in a not widescreen setup. How is that now a widescreen is needed? I mean, okay the PSP is a much more powerful hardware, but come on, we played Streets of Rage in the Megadrive! Just stop the hate and de-railing every topic you see, by saying the DS wouldn´t add anything good to a certain genre or questioning the features, because as a matter of fact, this kind of trolling is quite boring.

Selecting targets for computer allies?
Creating attack patterns for computer allies to later trigger with face/shoulder buttons?
Setting up traps and ambushes for when your turf is invaded while you're out?
Designing your gang colors/symbols/clothes?
Feeling up skanks minigame?
First-person "boss duels" in the vein of Goemon Impact?
Using chalk to draw hopscotch course for opponent to face?
Casting spells in AD&D ripoff games?

......no? :(

well then FUCK Beat-em-ups! Where's HEROES OF MIGHT AND MAGIC DS?

As someone who's been gaming for a lifetime and has seen this very same thinking applied to the handheld market for years, I'm mainly looking forward to PSP numbers increasing and more games being made for it.

I'm not saying developers shouldn't make games for the DS, it's clear folks will buy it, and the GBA compatibility in no short part is helping keep that dog afloat.

I'd just like to see a shake up of the handheld industry since the differences between Nintendo and competing company's hardware in the portable market is pretty significant.

The fact that the PSP has a nicer screen and better sound quality is secondary. Hopefully it has the financial backing and long term planning to keep it around longer than the Lynx, Game Gear, and Neo Geo Pocket Color.

I'd rather see more beat'em ups on the GBA or PSP.

The PSP has the worst dpad ever. Unless you guys have some really magical fingers, playing Streets of Rage 2 on it was a nightmare.

Keep dreaming.

You can play Final Fight in the upcoming Cap Classics for PSP.

No need for River City Ransom to letterbox the game area to leave a black space for text, and still not even display health and money at once. Second screen could also show your/partner's stats.

Perhaps in a multiplayer game the second screen could follow the other character if you get separated by more than a bit. This would be more useful in a game with branching paths or a nonlinear area.

River City Ransom could work though

I wish there was a Konami beatemup collection, but the licensing issues for X-men Siimpsons and Turtles is probably hell.
