"During the quarter we announced that NEC Electronics will now use our 1T-SRAM embedded memory technologies on their advanced 90nm process, and that the initial designs to be incorporated in SoCs will be used in Nintendo's next-generation game console, codenamed Revolution," he said.

The most interesting part came next, however, when Voll commented that: "We are excited to be a participating member of the Nintendo team once again as Nintendo will roll out its successor game console to the GameCube in mid-2006."

This is the first solid evidence that the Revolution platform is still on track for a mid-2006 launch. The console is expected to debut at a pre-E3 conference next Tuesday, but it's still not known just how much will be on display - with sources close to Nintendo suggesting that only a pre-recorded video of "next-gen footage" may be shown.

MoSys didn't reveal how much RAM would be going into each Revolution console - but in an unrelated story also doing the rounds about Revolution today, Chinese website Unika.com claims to have seen an actual specification for the hardware.

According to the site, the console will boast four 2.5Ghz IBM G5 Custom cores, with 128KB of level 1 cache and a 512KB shared level 2 cache, while the graphics will be powered by a dual core ATI RN520 chipset, with 16MB of on-board eDRAM for the frame buffer.

What does "The console is expected to debut at a pre-E3 conference next Tuesday" mean? Next Tuesday is not exactly pre-E3.
 
i think if anything, the focus should be on the date that MoSys gave.

the other site that gameindustrybiz brings up, what's the deal with them? are they reliable? besides, what's up with that pre-E3 quote huh?

This IS a really old article. There's no maybe about it.

The 4 2.5GHz processor rumor was made by folks before E3. The article is talking about a pre-E3 conference being held next week.

Put it together.

There's also the fact that he date on the article is from May and that this fact has already been discussed in this very thread :)

How about the fact that English word order demands it? "October 12, 2005" is literally transliterated without reordering into 10/12/2005.

The quaint smaller-to-bigger point is inconsequential compared to having to change the order of ideas where order matters in every case. Having October 12, 2005 | 12/10/2005 juxtaposed shows that just fine. Instead of the two forms being two separate entities, one is just shorthand for the other, thus it makes a good deal of sense to keep the order consistent to avoid confusion and extra mental categorization of "what type" of date you're talking about.

And that is why America is the wealthiest country on earth. :D

Except that it's against English's grammatical rules, sure. It's also incredibly awkward spoken English, if ever spoken. Unless you're talking about British English.

yeah, afaik mm/dd/yy is an american thing.

everyone else uses dd/mm/yy. sort of like how everyone else uses the metric system ;P

Juice's argument doesn't hold water.

"the twelfth of october 2005" is common way of saying a date.

and arguing proper english isn't exactly firm ground for an american to stand on ;P

I'm not sure he's ever claimed to know the Revolution's specs, but has claimed that footage he's seen is comparable to known footage from X360 and PS3.



As for the date argument, personally I'm a fan of year/month/date. When beginning a file name with a date that puts them in the right order when sorted numerically.

Yep that is how I use it and allways been using.

And if these specs were real, holy shit the Rev would be a super beast.

Yeah, I think we should all agree that yyyy/mm/dd become the standard GAF method of recording dates.

I just wrote a script that analyzes the behavior of people who use an online tool I wrote, and the way that timestamps are ordered (e.g. "20051026234834") was extremely useful. It's an asset in every situation from file naming to programming to casual conversation.

Well, it'd put down national pride undertones, anyway. Who's with me? If so, 2005/10/26 will be a day that lives in infamy.
