Django Unchained



It's been a while since I last sat down with this but when I saw it was leaving Max soon, I had to jump back in. Best decision I've made all day.

I forgot how visceral and heavy this movie gets. It's a three hour film that feels like ninety minutes because I was just so engrossed in the world. The balance is masterfully done; the humor hits exactly when it should, making the more miserable, violent moments feel even more impactful.

What really stood out this time was the soundtrack. The selection is so deliberate; using Luis Bacalov's 'Django' alongside new compositions by the legendary Morricone is a brilliant move. And lets not forget that Rick Ross drop in the middle of the film.

Overall, this rewatch just reminded me why I love this movie. It manages to be a grand, technical masterpiece and a raw, emotional rollercoaster all at once

It's a modern classic that earns every bit of its runtime.

the directors cut of this classic , heard about this version and had to see it , different to the theatrical release but just as good 4/5

I remember watching this film many times as a kid. First my cousin had this on home video and later I recorded this from TV. I still even remember where the film cut before ad breaks. I watched this now first time on Blu-Ray and I also think this is the first time I saw the unrated cut of this. Therefore there were scenes I had never seen before. The humour in this film is extremely juvenile, it's a wonder this film was even made. It was funny as a kid, and now 30 years later it was still funny as hell, even if I remembered almost every joke. One of the best comedies I have ever seen.

Thought this was gonna to be horror. Had a boring ass plot with an annoying cast. It's one of those "social thrillers". Was never a fan of those and I always found most of them preachy

Lovelace: D

Predicatable and was werided out why they choose to show Lovelace husband as a good guy when it was obvious that he was a scummy guy. The reveal had me rolling my eyes. The ending especially got super preachy

Goon Last of the Enforcers: D

The first one was way better, the jokes in this one didn't land at all. This sequel was bad

Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice: B+

A good surprise, it's a Mafia Crime movie with a science fiction twist involving time travel. James Marsden is once again the standout in this movie

Fast Times At Ridgemont High: B+

A coming of age comedy set in the 80s

Watching Sean Penn acting like a stoner in this film was weird experience for me, since I'm more used to his serious roles

Just Before I Go: B+

This was a another good surprise. It was a dark comedy with a lot of heart

Little Miss Sunshine: A

I always wanted to watch this one but never got around to this film. I loved the chemistry the whole family had with each other. There were lot of great dark humor throughout alongside the drama. Steve Carrell was the standout in this film for me. Greg Kinnear did a great job as the sociopathic asshole dad. I especially loved Alan Arkin, his character was my favorite and was bummed when his character dying midway through the film

A massive end of the world flood hits just as a woman is about to give birth.
After the first 5 minutes it's all chaos & misery.
It's unpleasant to watch, yes you got your scavengers and assholes but there's also sparks of hope showing the beauty of our world and humanity's never say die spirit.

Jodie Comer was good in it.
 
Dumb and Dumber To

Although I watched the original film many times as a kid, I had only seen this sequel once, in 2014 when it released. Making a sequel 20 years later is always a big gamble, but at least they made the film quite different from it's predecessor. Making a rethread of that would have not worked. Harry and Lloyd are as dumb as ever, but the humour is a bit more perverted this time around. Maybe the times are different, but I liked the more idiot humour of the first film better. This gave me quite a few chuckleds, too.

Also, only 8 more years for Dumb and Dumber For.

Bit late to the party on this one but was a ton of fun. Me and the Mrs loved it. Very funny.

8.5/10 Highly recommended.
 
Watched King of Kings the other day. Perhaps the preferred choice to teach kids about Jesus instead of Passion of Christ but what do I know.

One is about the life of Christ the other is about the death and resurrection.

I would not show The Passion of the Christ to anyone under 15. I think it takes some growth to understand what Christ went through on the cross.

It was a joke man, obviously … Passion of Christ scarred me for some time after I first saw it.
 
The Drama



Pattinson is great as usual but the movie itself is a bit of a miss. I usually fall for anything with an A24 logo and a weird color palette but even I can't pretend this worked. It's got all the 'indie' vibes and none of the substance

It's caught between genres and never really finds its footing imo. Dark comedy meets romance and the editing/score just don't support the vision

My biggest gripe is that there's a better movie buried in this premise. Instead it's just a decent idea executed into an okay film. Even the ending was more confusingly bland than fascinating

Send help. Listed as comedy horror, but there's no horror. There is some comedy and it's worth watching

I liked the ending, Bradley was a twat and deserved what happened to him

I just watched this one too.

Not really entertaining - it's more something that you keep watching out of curiosity until it finally just ends.

Pattinson did okay, but the film needed a better and more emotive / endearing actress than Zendaya to spur some investment from the audience. While I got that Pattisons soy-boy was conflicted and torn, it was really hard to empathize with Zendaya's character (who was essentially the victim) because the only reaction we really got out of her was the trademark Zendaya moody / sullen.

I hadn't heard of this, which is now the highest grossing live action Japanese film, until a couple months ago when I saw a trailer for it and it caught my attention. Worth checking out if you get a chance.
 
The Tomorrow War



I'll give it this: most of the VFX and action sequences are high tier and actually entertaining. Pratt is serviceable enough and any movie is improved by J.K. Simmons appearing on screen. But that's where the praise ends

The script is pure cringe. A messy, disjointed narrative that feels like three Netflix episodes stapled together. It drags for an hour, then pivots into a completely different movie for the final act

If you can stomach the endless magazines and the pretentious daddy issues drama, the last 30 minutes are surprisingly fun

It's a mess, but a somewhat watchable one.
 
Lost River

Mixing up a bunch of things I like from other movies, it's a bit weak, less than the sum of it's parts, but this kind of movie is made for me so I did like it.
Feels like a Winding Refn movie, great OST, good actors, visually interesting. The world building couldn't get deep enough for my taste because it's diluted by too many plot branches, it had potential.

Disappointed in this one. Great performance from Dwayne but lacking a proper arc. I didn't know much about the guy he played and I still don't. 6/10

I enjoyed this movie far more than I thought I would. And I can't wait for the sequel!
 
Sod and Stubble - 3/5 It is a very Saccharine story about homesteading in the US. Based on a real person and their lives. Basically what they persevered through to build KS

Not as bad as people say. I never watched the original, maybe thats why I enjoyed it more.. First half was a bit slow, but once the murdering starts I have no complaints.
 
Parenthood-4/5- Very good film about families and overcoming problems. Need more movies like this. Tough when movies that were released when you were a kid are on TCM.

Big trouble in little China- 4/5- All gas no brakes. A movie about the dangers of gambling.
