Investigators working under special counsel Robert Mueller are interested in speaking with people who were present on Air Force One during the drafting of the statement explaining Donald Trump Jr.’s 2016 meeting with a Russian lawyer, reports CNN.

According to the media outlet, which broke the story on Thursday based on inside sources, "Mueller wants to know how the statement aboard Air Force One was put together, whether information was intentionally left out and who was involved."

The report goes on to say, "Mueller’s questions could go to the issue of intent and possible efforts to conceal information during an obstruction of justice investigation."

Mueller must almost be horror movie scary to those guys now.

For real, these guys believed they could make a deal with Putin without getting compromised for the rest of their lives, figured firing Comey was a smart move that could be spun and covered up easily and thought their personal and digital backchannels to Russia wouldn't be picked up by worldwide intelligence agencies...

...they're utter morons and that's why we know so much already.

They've probably convinced themselves they can handle Mueller easily.

Am interested in what happens but to be honest I am a bit meh now when it comes to Mr Trump. It's a matter of time before it comes down. Even if he lasts the full term I struggle to imagine he will be re-elected and eventually this Mueller enquiry will strip him to almost nothing.

Hopefully any really damaging legislation can be fixed when his time is up.

Mueller is pretty scary for them but this is likely the person that terrifies the Trump family the most:

Andrew Weissman
Weissmann joined Mueller's team after taking a leave of absence from his current job leading the DOJ's criminal fraud unit. He formerly served as general counsel to the FBI under Mueller's leadership.

Weissman also headed up the Enron Task Force between 2002 and 2005, for which he oversaw the prosecutions of 34 people connected to the collapsed energy company, including chairman Kenneth Lay and CEO Jeffrey Skilling.

He spent 15 years as a federal prosecutor in the eastern district of New York, where he specialized in prosecuting mafia members and bosses from the Colombo, Gambino, and Genovese families.

"As a fraud and foreign bribery expert, he knows how to follow the money. Who knows what they will find, but if there is something to be found, he will find it," Emily Pierce, a former DOJ spokeswoman under the Obama administration, told Politico.

Honest question, could Trump order the Secret Service to lie under oath?

They can't get a cover story straight between the president, the president's son-in-law and the president's son.

Even if they somehow take a crash course in tradecraft, there is no way they're going to spin a consistent tale with a contingent of civil servants who have no intrinsic motivation to aid them.

why does it feel that Mueller is constantly reacting to the WaPo/NYT/etc releases as opposed to digging up his own stuff?

You are reading it backwards. Mueller's investigation is a black box; all of the info we are getting about it is from reporters asking questions around the periphery. When a big story hits, it gives reporters clues about where to dig.

So here, once the Don Jr. story hit, reporters knew that it was probable that Mueller would investigate it, so they ran the story down until they could find sources that bore out their hunch.

Not going to be surprised if Don jr takes the wrap for his dad then Don Sr pardons him before his son ever sees the inside of a jail cell.
