www.musicplasma.com

This is one of the coolest sites I have ever seen it is a visual search engine that show you what bands you will like based on the band you search. it will gives u things like discography to help you on your search. I put in the red hot chili peppers my favorite band and it basically gave me my entire ipod/itunes playlist. It even showed me some of the bands that are very obscure I listen too. man this is an asset to any muscilover and any music thread we have in the future. I recommend this to every one and you should all check it out.

tell me what you think

Holy shit! How did it do that!? The Books, The Wrens, The Doves, Radiohead (obivously), The Strokes, Travis! This is amazing.

for some reason though it seems to suggest that everyone in the universe likes radiohead

yeah it is really wierd them and the beatles are like the center of the music plasma universe they influence like every thing, it all strings back to them.

My power metal selections weren't influenced by either the Beatles or Radiohead. Hah!

i got from sonata arctica to the beatles in about 2 maps worth of clicks. well, fantasy metal but it's close enough.

this is becoming more of a game than a music resource for me now

It missed a lot of people I entered...and I don't think my tastes are THAT obscure.

Does anyone know what algorithm is used to create the matrix?

cool site, but its a little odd the way they link stuff together. Pearl Jam--->John Frucsante--->Outkast?
Well lets see i like all that stuff and it links well to my tastes i dunno alot of people fllow this it seems. plus you have to look at the size of the things the bigger they are the closer they go with each other.

Holy shit, I put in Merbow and it connected me to Naked City, The Boredoms, Melt Banana, and I'm assuming a few other bands I should probably check out.

Interestingly, putting 'Velvet Underground' into the search field resulted in only bands with either 'velvet' or 'underground' in the title. How could it be so dead-on when it comes to Merzbow, but so wrong when it comes to one of the biggest underground bands ever?

See the wierd thing is before I started this thread I put in velvet underground and had no problems what so ever I got linked to the right thing it showed me nico, warren zevon, lou reed, and joe strummer and the mescaleros. So i had no problem wierd?

Yeah, it worked for me now. Maybe I hit a wrong key or something.
Also: I disagree with their Bowie map.
EDIT: This isn't as decent as I first thought.

Sucks! But I should have known. I swear that no one knows about Susumu anywhere. You can't even order from cdjapan.com these days. Blahhhh. Have to order direct...

No techno on there though...
i'm assuming by "techno" you mean "electronic music". Sasha came up, with the predictable links to Paul van Dyk, BT, DJ Tiesto, etc. That's about as good as it gets without moving into the more trip hop-flavored artists.

I was confused on how The Streets matched up with Rush... both are great bands but very very much apart.

Also: Very funny how Choking Victim doesn't even have an orb.. just their name. :D

of course, a cynic might suggest that this site simply illustrates that all music can be neatly pigeon-holed, and you are all the sheep of the music industry marketing guys.

I'm not saying that, you understand - just pointing out that someone might :p

I'm gonna take a look now

I know a lot of people who love Sasha but hate PVD, Tiesto, etc... What I've seen usually is that progheads hate trance, but tranceheads will like prog :p I like em both a lot myself... Interesting site, but I'd have liked to see a bit less well known artists, for electronic music. I *KNOW* that if I like Sasha, I will probably like John Digweed too :p

Take note of the lack of the Japanese flag. It really only has Japanese bands that have made it in America. They obviously didn't have many of the bands I looked up, either :p

As for the Streets->Rush thing; it nailed your tastes, did it not? How it can link The Books to The Wrens, I don't know...but it's right! I love them both.

Very cool. It guessed pretty well what artists I would like, but OTOH it didn't give me too many names I hadn't already heard of. But I listen to a lot of music, so it's not entirely unexpected :) Thanks for the link!
