What's up ya'll...

I've been working on this music video for quite some time now (Pre-Production began in late February) and it's nearing completion (two more shooting days left).

I finally assembled a rough cut of it (four minutes) with title cards filling in the spaces without footage.

I shot it on the Panasonic DVX100 and edited it in Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5...

I'd like to get some impressions from everyone here, if that's cool...

Thanks everyone.

It's 30 megs.

Some indy rock (emo) band here in Toronto...it's about some dude waking up and there is a box on the pillow where his girlfriend sleeps.

In the box, is a bunch of pictures of them together and a letter that she wrote the night before explaining that she is leaving him.

He gets up and tries to catch her before she boards the subway, but is too late.

The end.

Then suddenly Max Headroom pops out of the box and makes the emo guy laugh and everything's okay again.

Had you put that in there then everything WOULD have been okay, but noooooooooo.

My simple synopsis of the video though is a thumbs up.

i liked the title-cards for scenes that haven't been shot yet. maybe you should keep those. maybe you should put in new ones. like "baldy twat singer looms hilariously from shadows." sorry. i don't mean to be a dick. it looked like an actual video you'd see on mtv. which probably makes it a success. but i genuinely do like those title-cards.

Title cards will leave when I have the footage...I don't see how you could like them.

And your comment on it being a video that you'd see on MTV is great, because I'm looking to submit it to Much Music (Canada's MTV).

So word!

baldies make generic rock bands work.

The only thing I really didn't like (aside from the song and the band) is the band mugging to the camera....specifically towards the end and even more specifically the guitarist with the travis barker looking cock-eyed hat flinging his head all around. I heard the song as a dude that's obviously sorry for something (as every other emo song) and having a dude flipping out like he's on some heavy narcotics didn't seem to fit....maybe slo-mo that part or add wind? hehe

Not bad. I've seen way worse shit on Videofact. Good job Were you the director/dp/editor? That's certainly a nice little camera. I prefer it to the Canon's in that price range.

Always nice to hear from a filmmaker in Toronto :)

Hey ocelittle, send me the video on mini-DV when your done. My company is going to start airing music videos online, including alot of indie bands. We've also been shooting alot of indie bands at clubs with the DVX100 and editing with Premiere Pro, and also some music videos here and there. Check us out at www.musicplustv.com or www.myspace.com/musicplustv

the mailing address is on the site or PM for the address

Fifty: Yeah, the camera is wicked.

I was pretty much every job on there. I was DP, Director, Editor, Producer, etc. I don't like working with other people (I'm in Film School here, and all the people in my class are knobs), so I opted to do it by myself. Not a good idea, though. It's alot of fucking work.

musicplustv: Hey man, thanks for the offer. Just out of curiosity, could I send you a DVD? I hate sending shit around on MiniDV because it compresses the video more.

But I'd love to have it up on your website (and I'm sure the band would, too), so I'll for sure send you a copy in some form.

Hey Ocelittle, I don't mind the DVD, however the mini-DV is actually less compressed than the DVD. Unless you are using some messed up codec. The MPEG2 compression for the DVD is much worse for the video than a DV Codec to tape.
