MVP NCAA Baseball 06: Load and Fire Batting

Simply pull back on the right analog stick to load your swing, then time the pitch and press up to swing the stick. To maximize your chances of making contact, you'll need to be smooth with the transition from pulling back to pressing forward. If you hold the stick back for too long before swinging, you'll get little power on your ping, weakly dribbling the ball in the infield. The longer you hold down, the longer the penalty.

Hold R1 or the R trigger while swinging to hit for contact. Hold L1 or the L trigger while swinging to hit for power.

Looks OK, as long as it accurately recreates the type of hits seen in baseball. I always get worried when the add stuff like this that it's too easy to just use power (L1) and hit homeruns all the time. It will probably be optional anyway, looks like it has potential to reward sitting on pitches and good timing if done right.

WTF? Didn't they have something just like that in that assy WSB2K1 on Dreamcast? I really hope the regular MVP style hitting is still an option.

I certainly hope they include the original batting interface. It was probably the best one ever created as it allowed for situational hitting. If you needed to get a ground ball to the right side of the infield to move a runner, then you had the ability to do so. The ability to pull or go the opposite way with pitches was so spot on in MVP.

Wow, I didn't expect such a drastic change in controls. I thought they were pretty much perfect besides base running.

Same here. The basic baseball engine was just about perfect IMO. This sounds like a gimmick. I can just see the back of the box now "New Load and Fire Batting!" The EA PR guys will shoot a load over this idea! Whatever..if we still have the old option, and they've done a good job at making the unpopular sport of college baseball one worth playing, I don't really care.

I agree, I even don't like the colored pitch stuff they added last year. Makes it too easy. I think it plays much better with that turned off. I think this will be optional as I said, to me if they keep the batting engine from last game I'll be happy.

The "load and fire" motion sounds intresting to me. Battle's between a pitcher and batter could turn out to be more intense because of how the batters rhythm could be thrown off by the speed of the ball. A hard throwing fastball pitcher with a change up would really make things challenging.

Yes... you pulled and held the r trigger and let go when the pitch was at the plate.

EA RIPPED OF SEGA SPORTS! BASTARDS.

Eh... who cares. No MLB liscense, no sale. WOOD bats FTW.

I likeds 2k5 so kiss my ass. I got the sliders perfectly... my only major gripe was the vaccuum like infielders. Such a bitch to hit anything out of the infield.

This more having "flow" to go with your timing. It's going beyond releasing a trigger.

If you hold the stick back too long you you won't make solid contact.
