My Audigy is possessed or something...

So I'll need some new sound card recommendations maybe.

Since building my new PC, I've had some minor stability problems. When I first built it, it wouldn't even post until I switched the sound card to a new slot. After that, once in a great while it'll just act up causing a hard lockup.

The errors are more or less random (errror in NTFS.SYS, IRQ NOT EQUAL, etc) but usually once I get my PC running again, my sound card is missing from the device list at bootup and from windows once it's running again. Only time seems to get it to reappear in the device list.

Today I got another hard lockup and when I tried to reboot it wouldn't even post. I pulled the sound card and it posted but had problems getting into Windows. Running check disk from the recovery console fixed.

Anyone have any ideas what's wrong with it? I know the easy answer is, "it's the soundcard" but it was running fairly stable for a good couple of months before this latest out of the blue lockup.

Beuller? Beuller?

Anyone? I'm running without a real soundcard here (using on-board sound). :( I kinda need one because I game on my PC.

I have an SBLive that has issues as well. Results in lots of sound hitching compared the on-board audio. I think it may just be time for me to format Windows and reinstall. It seems to need that every 6 months or so :)

Actually I had problems with my SB Live! too but it would just disappear from the device list, it wouldn't actually hard lock my PC when it would decide to disappear. :(

That was with my previous motherboard. The SB Live! was finicky, the Audigy 2 was fine. Now, the Audigy 2 is acting up on the new motherboard. :(

I think I am having that problem....hard lockup...sound fuxxored

HOW DO YOU FIX IT

When you said your audigy was possessed, the first thing I thought of is what mine is doing. It's not nearly as severe as what you're dealing with, but it startles the fuck out of me every time. I'll just be sitting there, minding my own business (doesn't seem to matter whether I'm actually listening to anything or not, but it seems to happen more often while I'm listening to mp3s) and all of a sudden, I'll hear a loud POP sound that comes out of nowhere. It's always way louder than what I'm listening to, so I almost always end up spazzing out since I didn't expect it. It doesn't happen all the time, maybe 3 times a week or something like that, but it really sucks.

I'm just going to buy a TurtleBeach card. I had one in anothre machine and never had an issue. I have driver issues with my creative stuff though. Could it be that Creative is the ATI of sound hardware?

Well...I figured out from another forum on a hunch that my plug and play software enumerator was gone....so I re-installed it and....

MY SOUND LIVES

Your what? What's a software enumerator?

I pulled the Audigy from my PC until I have time to properly figure out WTF is going on because my PC wouldn't even post for a whlie there. I actually suspect that as soon as I put it back in the case, it'll work like nothing happened though. It's done this before and it's getting on my nerves. :(
