My DS is Finally Getting Repaired...

But jesus Nintendo likes money. 75 bucks to fix the top screen. I'm also pretty confused as to why they're shipping it to California when I live relatively close to Redmond.

Ugh. Has anyone ever gone through the repair process with Nintendo? How long should I expect for turn around?

Only time I've had a system repaired was my PS2 like 2 weeks before MGS2 came out. Talk about me almost getting diaper rash.

Ha! Mine was supposed to go to Chatsworth, California and ended up going to Remond! Luckily its finally on its way back. It went up there via FedEx, but is returning via UPS. Once they fix it, you can expect to have it back within two days assuming they use UPS.

-.- I'm thinking the automated Fedex return system isn't that smart. It'd take one day to go to Redmond, 3 to Chatsworth. Gah.

What did you do to it that made them charge you, it should have been under warranty, unless you did something really bad.

What the... what happened to the DS? What did you do to it? It's out of warranty?

Fix the top screen as in physical damage.

It got stepped on at PAX. The LCD is cracked and leaking.

Edit: Well, I don't know if it got stepped on, that's just what I'm assuming. It was in it's case for a lot of the time, and when I took it out the top was cracked and my heart sank. Nintendo doesn't cover physical damage like that obviously.

Heh, my top screen was a damaged like that too, but it wasn't stepped on. Probably from being in my backpack or so. In any case, I had it replaced for a refurb unit for about 50$. Quick and easy too, but I do live like only 45min away from NoA XD

Well the whole thing seemed kind of weird.

I ordered the repair online, and it wasn't very specific. The only choices were "Warranty Repair, No Charge" or "Non-warranty Repair, $75.00" so maybe it's like a maximum and they'll refund me for any extra?

Hmm, well the thing was that it was within the warranty period too, so possibly not D:

Call and talk to them. It's easier to get the benefit of the doubt that way. Tell them exactly what you told us. You have no idea what happened, but when you took it out of the case, the top screen was leaking. Maybe you'll score a free repair/replacement!

They are repairing my JPN Graphite DS for free, so they're pretty lenient. Basically just cosmetic scratches on the touchscreen that didn't really affect gameplay.

Lesson learned: always call Nintendo to get your unit fixed for free.
