yeah. so i finally decided to go to a professional soccer/football match today. went and saw the Chicago Fire vs the Kansas City Wizards.

awesome atmosphere. I've never been on board with soccer but I wish to God that someday I'll go to a football game and it'll have the kind of atmosphere that an MLS game has. I'm sunburned as hell but even tailgating was awesome. Good times, good times.

anyone else a fan? My next mountain to climb for sports is either going to the Churchill Cup or whatever (Rugby tournament) OR trying to get a ticket to england and catching a premier league match there.

I've still never been to an MLS game, but my first USMNT game was AWESOME. I can't wait for Mexico in Columbus*.

*Not confirmed, but that's where we played them for the last two qualifiers...

my sister's husband and i always go to see Chivas USA every now and then

it's crazy awesome when they play against the L.A. Galaxy.

we were hoping we could have seen them play another big team, like Chivas or Galaxy or something. But I mean, KC was alright, too.

I'm strongly considering getting tickets for the Barclay's Churchill Cup in June. (International Rugby tournament)

Welcome aboard! We talk a fair amount of MLS over on the football/soccer thread, so stop by any time.

I went to the Earthquakes home opener last weekend and I'll be catching a few more of their games this season. It's a lot of fun to watch in person and the tickets aren't outrageously expensive like a few other professional sports.

Nice! Glad you enjoyed your stay. Football/Soccer > All

I've been to one or two MLS games, as well as when USA played England in Chicago a couple years ago- and I have to say, watching soccer in the US has nothing on games in the EPL - the atmosphere that is. I went to 3 games between relegation level teams while in England, and they were all incredible. (Leeds fans were insane)

Anyone have a different experience?

Aren't the games kind of in BFE myke? I've been wanting to go.. let me know if you end up going to another, I'd be interested.

There is no better sports atmosphere than the student section of certain schools at a college football game. I've never been to a MLS game, so it could be just as good. But beat college football - impossible.

it's down at like 71st and Harlem Ave. You can actually take CTA there. Hop on the Orange Line, I suppose...

Yeah. My buddy and I are already planning more games for this summer. I'll shoot you a PM next time we go. Could be fun. Tailgating was a blast. I've got a pic somewhere of us in the parking lot holding a "GO FIRE! Millen" sign, too :lol

On a sidenote, this was my first day spent outside this spring and man am I sunburnt, haha.

That's the only thing I could think of that was close. It was awesome, but we both come from colleges that don't have a whole lot of atmosphere. I mean it's there in certain sections but not the majority of the stadium.

Meier-- we're also planning a weekend gig later this year in September. We're gonna go to Northwestern and represent Michigan State (which is us getting tipsy and being assholes wearing green and taunting N'Western fans), and then going to watch the Fire play columbus.

San Jose fan here. I've been to many home games and atmosphere is great when you are part of it. A lot of the supporter clubs this year are stepping it up so atmosphere is even greater. Chicago, Toronto, DC fans are amongst the best in the league in my opinion.

Away matches are always the best for atmosphere in my experience.

Villa away this season was awesome, the noise at the final whistle always puts a smile on my face.

Yeah I guess that's not too bad. I've never actually been on the Orange Line since I haven't been to Midway before. How much were tickets?

You picked the wrong year! The NZ Maori weren't invited this year >(

Nah, seriously it would probably still be worth going to but don't expect too much of an atmosphere. I watched a few of the Churchill games (on tv) in the past years and there's not much in that regard.

even though I live in the Greater Los Angeles area I still have not made an effort to go watch a game, I mean Bechkam is there and all and tickets are probably not that expensive.

San Jose vs. LA = probably one of the best rivalries in MLS. Congrats to the sounders, should have a good rivalry with them also, since they are going to in the west.
