My mom's new phone randomly has an unresponsive touchscreen

I've bought my mother a new phone for her birthday. A Samsung M12.
After about a month the screen started to randomly becoming unresponsive for a short while - it could be seconds or minutes she says.
Any known cause? Any know fix? Should we just give it back (I'm dreading this because I don't want to set it up another phone)?

EDIT: I tested the display with https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gombosdev.displaytester and found no problems.

try a factory reset, it might be seizing up from some app she has, has she been installing a bunch of junk? not trying to be rude, my girl tends to have a bazillion discount apps and stuff on her phone and like 30 apps open at a time... drives me nutso :p

regardless of what apps she may have installed, i think it might be worth doing a factory reset before u send it back.. the screen seizing up.. does it keep animating and just not respond to touches, or does it freeze?

Nah, just the basics and a match 3 game.

It keeps animating and just doesn't respond. She's using a pen with a rubber tip that came with a case for the touchscreen, but even with fingers the problem persists.
Drives her crazy that almost every time she gives it to me to try it starts working again. "SEE? IT DOESN'T WORK! YOU TRY" *grabs phone* *works* might want to keep it just for the lulz.

ahh yes, the old evidence that machines are sentient BASTARDS

in that case i suppose it could be a faulty connection wire yeah

one final thought, is she accidentally touching it with the edge of finger tip or two? maybe it has a maximum number of 'touch'... distinguishers... whatever

I think it's a defect in the digitizer or the ribbon cable or connector that connects the digitizer to the phone's logic board.

But since the phone is under warranty, I'd stop tring to figure it out yourself and just return it for repair/replacement.

You’re asking for problems buying Samsung, huge brand but huge problems.

At least take the phone to a repair shop.
