I am reflecting on all of the biographies I have read on successful people in various fields .. I can't remember one of them living with thier parents well into thier 20's. In fact, most were out of the house before they turned 20.

None of them were born with a third arm, either. What the hell is your point?

Im 27 and I still live with ma and pa. It has its advantages and disadvantages. In all honesty Im pretty sure my parents dont want me to move out. I help out with bills and stuff. I dont get my full privacy since my mom goes in my room, she is a neat freak and hates to see my room a little messy. I hate that I cant have several friends over at the same time, no blockbuster nights with dates. I do understand there comes a point were we have to move out and gain some independence for me that will be next year.

Save up for a few months so you can move with less hassles and you have a little money put away for emergencies. Set a definite date and start making plans. Try not to move out because of an argument with your parents or whatever, attempt to make the last little while at home as peaceable as possible, it'll be less stressful that way.

As soon as I graduated from college I was off the familial teat. I shared an apartment with a guy I've known since I was six yrs old. I waited tables, detailed cars, and whatever else it took to make it.

It's not that I hated my rents' or anything either. I have good parents, and in my estimation, they had done their job in preparing me for independence. IMO, teaching a child to be independent; or how to live responsibly on their own, is the most valuable lesson a parent can give their child.

It's not uncommon for grown adults to live at home in many societies. The privacy/parents being controlling aside, it has many benefits, including keeping the family unit fairly close to each other for longer. Cost savings, improved mental health, and more free time and more free cash for the young adult to enjoy life a bit longer as the teenage years of play seems to be creeping into the 20s these days as well.

Independence to me doesn't mean getting off to live on your own at 14, 16, 18 or some age that people later brag about. Although hats off to those who have to do it at a very young age because of life circumstances. Independence is simply being yourself and moving out when you're ready at a mutually agreed upon phase in one's life (ie: marriage in many cultures), and not being throw out.
