My phone died and I need a replacement

My GS3 died or is dying. It will try to power on but fail. It gets to the swirly purple Samsung logo and turns off. If it manages to boot up, it'll work for a minute or two and just turn off. That happens with a full charge and even plugged in. So I guess it's time for a new phone.

I'm looking at these options:

HTC One

HTC One Max

Nexus 5

I like the HTC One the most but I don't like that it's been out since April. The One Max I like because of the screen size but I've seen many negative comments regarding this phone. But that's the one I'm most interested because it looks like a One just bigger. Don't know when it'll be out. The Nexus 5 looks interesting, don't know any specs of it or screen size or when it will be available. I could just go up to a GS4 or Note 3 but I dunno, those look so simple next to the premium looking HTC One. What I use my smartphone for the most is web browsing and videos. Don't play many games if at all. Just wondering what everyone thought is the best all around phone, especially for my needs. I'm open to other phone suggestions. I want to stick to Android because I like it, not really interested in going back to iPhones and not really interested in Windows. Kinda want to get a phone today or this weekend.

Galaxy S4 is my baby, I recommend it. I don't like the fact that the HTC doesn't have an actual home button, just capacitive buttons.

i wish i could get a nexus 5... damn you verizon. anyways i would go with nexus 5 just because of the OS. itll be the smoothest experience. HTCs are great too though. from what i heard you cant go wrong with One. but yeah nexus 5

HTC One and Galaxy S4 specs are a wash, basically the same and the minute differences are not noticeable. Overall specs wise, GS4 is slightly ahead, but again, not really noticeable for most tasks. HTC One has the sleeker build, and solid aluminum frame, so if the looks are important to you than this is the phone to get. As for whether or not you should get the One Max, keep in mind the HTC has a pretty big screen to begin with.

I recently chose the HTC One over the GS4, and am loving it so far. The fact that it released in April doesn't detract it from being in the top echelon of current mobile devices. However, having used the GS4 as well, it is also an awesome device, but I dislike the plastic frame.

Battery wise, on a typical day, the One will last for 24 hours. This includes some gaming, browsing, a lot of music, and moderate texts/calls. With less usage I have had it last around 30+ hours or so.

If you want to stay off contract, then the Nexus 5 would be the best bet.

If you don't mind a new contract, I'd go HTC One. Have it myself, best phone I've had since the iPhone 3G.

i bought a htc one last week. i'm very happy with it and i don't think i want a bigger phone than this, but i would consider one slightly smaller. just a tad bit smaller.

Since you are a GS3 owner, what makes you averse to getting the 4? Just the looks?

The looks to be honest. It looks exactly the same as my GS3.

The Note 3 looks interesting too but I don't think I would use the pen much, but I really like the huge screen. I want a tablet but a table without internet is just useless to me and I'm not gonna pay for internet on that, that's why a "phablet" is interesting to me.

The HTC One looks amazing and judging by what some of you are saying in this thread I might go for that one.

When is the Nexus supposed to come out? I can't be without a cellphone for too long.

HTC One is probably my favorite phone ever. There are other good options though. G2 is supposedly killer on battery and a great camera. Note 3 is possibly a good option too. It's the most future proof phone out now.

If I had to go android, it would be the N5.

Using bloated ugly software added by a manufacturer isn't my idea of fun.

This exactly. Stock android 4.3 is great. Samsung modifications and it`s Touchwhiz UI are horrible.

b...bump?

My flip phone finally died last week. I went to the Verizon store today and switched from my family plan to my own plan, keeping my own number. I then tried to buy a phone in-store but didn't really like what they were offering me (and pushing me to buy every-fucking-service).

I just want to start out with a decent smallish smart phone and have the basic share-everything plan with 500MB of data... which is going to cost $70 a month (jesus!). I thought the Moto X was nice and small but the guy said there are much better phones out there. The Galaxy S3 was nice (a little big) so that would probably be my second choice, but it's more expensive.

I left the store without buying anything today. I went online and tried to sign up for a My Verizon account to check the deals online. I couldn't finish my registration because Verizon texts a code to my currently dead phone. I don't know any other way to receive the text code. So there goes online...

I might go back to another Verizon store tomorrow. I don't really know what to doooo

Appropriate thread for me.

My 3G needs replacing, but I have Verizon with an unlimited plan, so if I upgrade, I lose it. I need to buy a new phone at cost, and I'm not trying to spend 800$. Any ideas on a cheaper, but solid option? I wanted to Nexus 4 or 5, but I understand they don't work with Verizon.

Lunchbox, spare me your inevitable comment about me being poor.

Dude the Moto X is a really good phone. Disregard the lunacy, if you liked it, get it. No stupid ugly skin, its fast, has useful unique features, and the hardware is still good.

Its not the top of the line, but its damn close.

The only correct choice is to get a S4. N5 is cheap but you can get s4s off eBay for $400. Its a bit weaker than n5 but the battery life is better and it has expandable storage.

Look at getting a used phone of some sort that works on Verizon for a deal, the GNex is easy to root and put fun things on. Maybe a used S3 could also be in your price range.

My Galaxy Nexus is starting to annoy me so I'm probably going to buy a Galaxy S4 from craiglist and put stock on it.

The Droid Mini has the same internal parts as the Moto X, but with a 4.3" screen and lower price. Also the S3 is free w/signing soul to Verizon for 2 years online.
