PRESS RELEASE -- This text is not created or endorsed by GameSpot.

SANTA CLARA, Calif., (April 19, 2005) - Global video games publisher, Namco Hometek Inc. today announced "Namco Museum Battle Collection" for the PSP portable entertainment system. Offering new and original versions of some of Namco's most beloved arcade classics including "Galaga," "Pac-Man" and "Dig Dug," the game will be released with U.S. exclusive titles this summer for the ultimate handheld arcade experience.

Originally released earlier this year in Japan, the U.S. version will be graced with 10 exclusive classics. "Xevious," "Bosconian," "Mappy," "Tower of Druaga," "Dragon Buster," "Grobda," "Dig Dug 2," "King & Balloon" and others bring the total to more than 20 titles.

"Millions of people around the world have played Namco's arcade classics, and now we're able to offer new versions of these timeless games to a whole new generation of gamers with 'Namco Museum Battle Collection,'" said Yoshi Niki, Business Unit Director at Namco Hometek Inc. "'Namco Museum Battle Collection' is a must-have title for anyone that enjoys classic gameplay on an innovative new platform."

An all-new treatment of its classics for Sony's new portable platform, "Namco Museum Battle Collection" brings together many of Namco's most beloved arcade franchises. Taking full advantage of the PSP system's wireless connectivity, the game allows up to four gamers to battle it out or play together on these updated classics. Players will also be able to share the great nostalgic gameplay of the original titles with their friends in the Game Sharing Mode by transferring wirelessly to another PSP system.

20 games! Druaga? Xevious? Yes sir! I wonder how many will be remakes as well?

The rumor was true! Nice!

I hope they also include the version of Pac-man arrangement found in the arcade and the console versions of namco museum.

Wait... US > Japan? Unpossible.

Now to bitch like an American at good news...

Why don't they ever put Rolling Thunder in a Namco collection?!

Awesome. I hope the additional games are up to the same quality standards as the ones in the Japan release and not some half-ass ports by some no-name developer...

Holy shit, portable Druaga on PSP! This is sweet! I'll definitely be getting this immediately. IMMEDIATELY!!!

Saying they've created some of the world's greatest video game franchises, and then putting Dead to Rights in the list, is utterly silly, by the way. Jesus Christ, I know Namco Hometek needs to have some pride but let's be real.

Fuck yes! That is awesome fucking news, this is probably the best compilation title I've ever seen, provided the ports are faithful. Besides the coolness of having versions of Pac Man, Galaga, Galaxian, etc., Dig Dug 2 alone seals my purchase, I used to play that game a lot with my uncle. I'll be happy to finally check out Tower of Druaga, too. I also find it funny that they're giving us Xevious, which people have been paying ~$20 for in the NES classics collection, just by itself.

I hope they support 90 degree rotate on screen. I will suck up bad controls for good aspect ratio....

wow...japanese version OWNED. i'd better sell it while i still can. mmm...portable xevious in tate mode. :D

man, looks like i'm getting the US version of this.

I was kinda praying for Sky Kid.

I'm in the market if you're serious. As much as I want to go nuts about how much the US compilation is gonna rock - and believe me, I want to! - I have almost zero faith in US classics compilations at this point. I can already see the inevitable thread where we all throw a fit about how good the pack coulda been, if it had only had TATE, etc. The last time I got really excited about a US classics pack was Pac-Man Collection for GBA, and I was horrified to find that my beloved Pac-Mania music had been chopped down to horrible 15-second loops to save cart space. Can't wait to see what similar fuck-ups they pull this time. :(

I just wanted to add that it's downright criminal that we're being stuck with worthless titles like King and Balloon, Grobda, and Dragon Buster (yet again) when Namco could be giving us awesome, actually-worth-playing games like Libble Rabble and Metro Cross. I suppose they could be included, since not all of the games have been disclosed yet, but I'm not getting my hopes up - Libble Rabble didn't even make it onto any of the 6 original Museum discs.

Also, about the 4-player support.. I consider myself pretty familiar with the games listed so far, and if I'm not mistaken none of them support 4 players. In fact, most don't even support 2 players non-alternating. Could they be working on battle-mode arrangements for each game, or something like that?

Dragon Buster and King & Balloon both rock IMO.

Really? King and Balloon? I tried really hard to like it on Encore, and ended up thinking it was really funny in ways (the ultra rudimentary speech clips), but I couldn't say I actually thought it was a good game. Maybe I should give it another go.

At any rate, I think it's very cool that it's being included here. I just wish Namco would bust out some of my pet favorites, particularly Libble Rabble, as long as they're already going down the road of obscure classics. I think it'd work well with the second joystick mapped to the buttons, Robotron style, and would be a good way to expose a lot of people to a barely-appreciated, but truly great, classic game.

Then again, it'd probably also get my ass busted for having the URL registered. Maybe I should be careful what I wish for..
