Namco to support the PS2 until 2010

JL: I would say both. Part of my division here, outside of just the licensed goods, are to maintain development for the current systems. We're looking at supporting PlayStation 2 up through 2010, and other areas within Namco are looking to be out at launch on next-gen systems. We are really just right now putting an emphasis on making great games and covering avenues that a year ago we didn't typically recognize, and that's handheld systems and PCs.

If this means that Tekken and SC will be appearing the PS2 within the next 5 years, then I just found my reason not up to upgrade to next-gen console. What really interesting here, this sort of initative seem to be right in the mid-life of the next gen consoles.

Here's hoping more publishers fallow suit also.

I wouldn't expect much (think EA's support of PSone)..all the stuff you'll really want to play will be on the new systems, I'd think.

Well, last-gen a lot of publishers made the stupid mistake of abandoning the massive install base of current consoles for the tiny installed base of next-gen consoles. This time around,it looks like everyone has learned their lesson.

True. I should say beyond 2006, into 2007, most if not all of the stuff you'll want to play will be on next-gen systems only.

right, that goes without saying, but there's still money to be made back-porting franchice games (sports, PoP sequels, etc) to older consoles.

More like "Namco Hometek to support PS2 until 2010 with shitty licensed kids games". ;)

Hey if it's anything like the PSOne's longevity those shitty kiddie games will keep parents buying the PS2 for quite awhile and give Sony a nice little background cash cow in the process...

2005 Namcollection
2006 Namcollection 2
2007 Namcollection 3
2008 Namcollection 4
2009 Namcollection 5
2010 Namcollection 6
:D :D

Hmm..wonder how many more Tales of. I say one more at best and they should move on and try keep game abit fresh.

Maybe between now and 2010 Namco can finally release a retro collection with Splatterhouse and Galaga 88 on it. That way I dont have to go the retro system route to enjoy them.

why not, game will be made for PSP and ported to PS2. The only bad thing is that it will not put the bar high for next gen, they will stick to current dev tool for too long.

It would be cool if Sony were so confident in their market dominance that they simply skipped PS3 and the next gen of hardware, and released a new console in 2010 instead. :lol

Meh... I'll be more interested in the stuff for next-gen consoles from Namco. Buy a "oh-my-god-is-that-ugly" version for PS2 or new & sexy one for PS3? Simple choice.
