Name a show where you don’t find yourself grabbing your phone out of boredom?

I feel like no matter how invested I get in a show I always find myself reaching for my phone to just….check notifications etc etc.

This use to not be a thing, mostly because the technology wasn’t there (I’m mid 40’s and my first REAL experience with the internet was AOL or Prodigy)

But I think the only show that had me so hooked where I never reached for my phone in recent memory is

Severance season 1?

OP just to clarify, are you asking for shows that manage to hit all of the high notes right? Acting, direction, cinematography, writing, etc?

Or are you asking for shows that have more of a pacing that is meant for modern audiences?

I'm asking so I can know how old of a show I can recommend for you.

Lol, Severance season 1 was the first thing I thought of when I read the thread title (haven't watched s2 yet). I think you're overstimulated in your day to day life, probably by using too much screen technology. Try to wean yourself out of that habit and you'll likely see that you can focus on just your TV show, even if it gets slightly boring at times.

It’s crazy how often you can read someone talk about a show who was obviously on their phone while “watching” it. People just completely miss plot points, themes, etc.

I mean I’ve done it before but I don’t go blast off on a show I barely paid attention to online.

If I frequently get that bored I just stop watching.

Shows like Breaking Bad, Deadwood, and Band of Brothers I was able to binge episodes without really ever getting bored.

I think just about every tv series I can be bored. Dont watch many anymore, but I found Penguin really good as you never knew what that crackpot would do. And if his actions werent unpredictable or violent, it's still interesting because he talks weird and looks like a mess.

I rarely take out my phone when watching something. If it's not grabbing my attention enough to not check my phone it's probably not worth watching anyway.

That said, just like videogames I think a lot of shows are bloated and too long. Seasons that go on forever and slow pacing. Many shows now go for a 60 min runtime instead of the older 45 min standard but it often just feels like they are adding 15 mins of bloat.

WHY in the world would you even watch a show while using your phone? Makes 0 sense.

It's also about discipline. You can never immerse yourself when you're on your phone. Lots of shows won't work when you miss small details. Find something else to enjoy and show the creators some respect.

I watched Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story and grabbed my the phone not because out of boredom but trying to fact check the plot/events of the show right down to comparing the murder scene.

Only in Episode 5 is where I didn't grab the phone, yet it was an episode with just one shot of Erik Menendez was just talking.

if I'm bored enough to want to grab my phone I'll switch to something that I actually want to watch as opposed to keeping it on while playing with my phone.

it sounds like you might have just a phone addiction? what sort of notifications are you getting anyways?
eh not sure if that counts since each episode is like 7 minutes

I listen to podcasts while I watch a show.
Severence S1 grabbed my attention. Can’t think of anything else that has since then

I don't normally grab for my phone when watching a show.

I'll check notifications if I'm expecting a package but other than that, nope.

Also, watching Landman right now, it's pretty good.

It's funny, because Severance is one of the most boring show I saw in the previous years 😅. I hardly finished season 1, and I won't see season 2.

My answer would probably be Cobra Kai. Its short episodes help.

If I'm reaching for a phone during a show or a movie that's my cue to drop it. Unless I'm actively getting texts I keep my phone away while watching something. I do get the temptation. I'm always trying to spend less time on my phone.
