Name soulful games you have played (which is also not ruined by greed, and such as)

Recently finished Ori the Blind Forest. Art and platforming excellence, soulful game
Elden Ring. The art makes me fucking appreciate the Reality made by the Devs, the Holy Trinity. People who care about what they are creating, gameplay awesomeness, that excitement of discovery
DQ11. That classic soulfulness still remains
BOTW. Beauty of God represented in the little artistic details

List soulful games you have played

South of Midnight. Its a small miracle that this game exists. Some of the best art and visual design seen this whole generation. OST is S tier. Everything in the game is just oozing care and attention to detail. Great characters and lore.

Not sure what defines 'soulful', but I suppose it's these kind of games?

The king of Soul

RDR2

There isn't a drop of detail of care poured into another game, open world especially, like that which was put into this game.

It's still putting other games to shame almost 7 years later

Just wanted to post some not well known or forgotten games of high quality, not even AAA but so worth playing, since all of us know of those big AAA games already:
New xpack coming out 2025, devs already gave tons of info on that:

Not well know but really funny and great gameplay spiritual succesor to dungeon keeper:
Dungeons 2,3,4 with all its expacks
D1 sucks but 2,3 and 4 are much better, tons of humor in dialogues/narration of the story too :)

I'd say Ghost of Tsushima, the fact that Jin was destined to be as stubborn as his boomer uncle and decided to go against it, with the ultimate choice, great game

Portal 1 & 2
Oh yes indeed, Portal (at least the first one, didn't finish the second one yet), incredible how the little elements make the game as great as it is. And I tried some games that try to mimic the feeling (like Superliminal), but they're not even close

FromSoft specialize in this.
OG STALKER Trilogy (yes even Clear Sky you uncultured swine)
OG Oblivion menus
Dusk
Platinum Games

Struggling to think of an AAA Western title to fit this… RDR2 wasn't a bad addition. Maybe pre-AW2 Remedy games. Those might be AA. Return to Castle Wolfenstein. I can jive with that. Arkham trilogy probably too.

Demon's Souls (not the fucking "Remake")
Dark Souls 1
Dark Souls III
Soul Calibur II
Soul Reaver
Soul Reaver 2
Murdered: Soul Suspect
Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers

Kingdom Come 2 seemed to me like it had a lot of love put into it.

I'm currently playing Shining The Holy Ark and this game is as charming as they get.
The combo of early 3D + prerendered sprites is just so good:

Demon's Souls (not the fucking "Remake")
The remake is perfection. They took a low-buget, poor performance PS3 game and changed absolutely nothing except making it one of the best looking PS5 games to date, removed loading, got it at a smooth 60 FPS and implemented haptic feedback.

Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Hollow Knight, Clair Obscur : Expedition 33, Journey...

I'd say Half-Life and maybe Warcraft 3 also qualify.

Basically games where I feel dev did what they wanted without making compromises on stuff they "should" or "shouldn't " do.

Except they've changed the art direction, lighting and geometry and thereby changing the whole atmosphere the original was going for. The surreal/weird feeling isn't there anymore.

Nah. Hard disagree.

I could have told you people would have said exactly this a year before I ever saw what the remake would like. Most predictable thing ever. And completely wrong

Team Ico immediately came to mind when I read the topic title.

Well, then we disagree, it seems. I think the "Remake" completely failed to capture what made the OG Demon's Souls remarkable.

HL is so full of soulfulness!
