The one good thing about a moon base:

Since there's no night time, you can collect endless solar energy.

I read a book to my son (3) about space, and then told him about the time when people went to the moon, and he was like « why ? » and I was like « oh boy, where do I start »

I was curious about how often the moon gets hit by space junk and asteroid nuggets, and it was more than I thought:

"There are about 100 pingpong-ball-sized meteoroids hitting the moon per day," Cooke said. That adds up to roughly 33,000 meteoroids per year. Despite their small size, each of these pingpong-ball-size rocks impacts the surface with the force of 7 pounds (3.2 kilograms) of dynamite.

Larger meteoroids hit the moon, too, but less often. Cooke estimates that larger meteoroids, such as ones 8 feet (2.5 meters) across, slam into the moon about every four years. Those objects hit the moon with the force of a kiloton, or 1,000 tons (900 metric tons) of TNT. The moon is about 4.5 billion years old, so it's no wonder its surface is pockmarked with all kinds of craters from these impacts.
Article here.

Then I searched how much damage 7 pounds of TNT could do, and got this answer:

Damage Potential

  • The energy from 7 pounds of TNT is relatively small.
  • It would likely cause limited damage, comparable to a small explosion or a firework.
  • Such an explosion might break windows or cause minor injuries but would not result in significant structural damage.
In summary, while 7 pounds of TNT can produce an explosion, the damage would be minimal and localized.
So on earth, this doesn't sound bad, but in space where you have no atmosphere or margin of error, seems like a problem maybe? Especially if it's coming in fast and you don't see it.

One thing about the moon is that all the craters have a depth limit, I hope they drill down to see what's in there because nobody knows

People say bla bla XYZ is inside the moon but nobody knows knows really

Will they find diamonds or a space nazi bunker, we'll have to wait until 2032
