NBC's 'Fear Factor' Sued for Rat-Eating Episode

Wed Jan 5, 4:03 PM ET

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Watching contestants eat dead rats on NBC's gross-out stunt show "Fear Factor" so disgusted a Cleveland man that he has sued NBC for $2.5 million, saying he could not stomach what he saw.

In a handwritten four-page lawsuit filed in federal court in Cleveland on Tuesday, paralegal Austin Aitken said, "To have the individuals on the show eat (yes) and drink dead rats was crazy and from a viewer's point of view made me throw-up as well an another in the house at the same time."

His suit added, "NBC is sending the wrong message to its TV watchers that cash can make or have people do just about anything beyond reasoning (sic) and in most cases against their will."

He said the show caused his blood pressure to rise so high that he became dizzy and light-headed, and when he ran away to his room, he bumped his head into the doorway.

In a brief telephone interview with Reuters, Aitken said, "I am not at liberty to discuss the complaint unless it is a paid-interview situation."

A spokesman for "Fear Factor" said the show would have no comment until it sees a copy of the complaint. The spokesman said the program did feature an rat-eating scene in New York's Times Square on Nov. 8.

Over the years, contestants on the program have eaten some weird things, including ground-up spiders and live worms.

He should be sued.

LeBron loves his girlfriend. There is no other woman in the world he’d rather have. The problem is, Dwyane’s not a woman.

I love this :lol

Man, those people really wolfed that blended rat down. Not a whole lotta hesitation, even with money on the line.

Faster than Lori & Bolo drinking the Pig's Blood on the latest episode of TAR? Granted, I would MUCH rather drink blood than blended rat if I had the choice...

Yes, because when someone sues over something disgusting they see on a scripted show, there will be a precedent set!

Welcome to America! :lol

Fear Factor is gross but I find it to be one of the more "appropriate" shows on network TV. The most sickening thing about that show is how Joe Rogan talks to the female contestants using his "encouraging" tone of voice.

You can also tell he hates his job. I hate Joe Rogan.

Attractive women need the encouragement! And everybody loves Joe Rogan! Especially the female contestants.

I am gross and perverted
I’m obsessed ’n deranged
I have existed for years
But very little had changed
I am the tool of the government
And industry too
For I am destined to rule
And regulate you

I may be vile and pernicious
But you can’t look away
I make you think I’m delicious
With the stuff that I say
I am the best you can get
Have you guessed me yet?
I am the slime oozin’ out
From your tv set

You will obey me while I lead you
And eat the garbage that I feed you

Until the day that we don’t need you
Don’t got for help...no one will heed you
Your mind is totally controlled
It has been stuffed into my mold
And you will do as you are told
Until the rights to you are sold

By the way, that episode was fantastic. Seeing the hair and gobs of tail in the blended drink was especially great.

"Waaahhhhhh! I bumped my head, where's my 2.5 mil?! It was gross!"

What a jackass.

I liked when they ate those live rock crab spiders or whatever they were when they were in Vegas. Squirming legs sticking out of their mouths... good stuff.

Good thing he never saw the ep where they had to grab rings with their teeth out of a tank of cow blood.
That was a great ep. Anybody that kept their eyes on that dude while the others were doing the stunt, could kinda see that coming; he was pacing, and shifting feet, and asking questions, and getting more and more agitated with each passing moment leading up to his turn. But I don't think anyone expected him to get that worked up - the guy just went NUTS.

IIRC in a VH1 special, Joe said that's the only time on the show when he's really gotten scared for his own safety. This big, hulking guy's screaming and freaking out and throwing blood everywhere, and Joe looked around and realized that there's no real security on set or anything. If this guy decided to go apesh*t on somebody, it'd probably be the person closest to him... and that was Joe.

Also on that special was a stunt that never made it past the censors: milking goats... with your mouth. :lol

On a similar note, how about breast implants? I swear, at least 90% of the female contestants have them.

I hate people like this guy...

Does that mean I can sue the hospital for having people with open wounds in the waiting room with me. All the gushing blood made me sick.

Someone needs to collect a truckload of rats and dump them on his front lawn on a picnic blanket.

Oh...

And the episode where they ate road kill was especially nasty.

I'm going to sue those of you who made me gag with the descriptions of said gross incidents.

You ruined my virgin imagination.

I've only caught Fear Factor when my brother-in-law and my sister were watching it while I was living up north.

But, some of the contestants are definitely eye candy.

In the Netherlands version of Fear Factor there was a Stripping episode , i dont think that's a good idea for the show in America :lol .

Ironically, there was a stripping episode.

I saw the previews for it. Only on American TV they mosaic out the good bits.

Eh, we had a version of that episode. The contestants had to strip naked and walk down a modelling runway infront of a live audience. They aired it, but obviously used the blur filter. If I recall, they could do it again if they wanted to but because everyone did it they feel it was too easy, so the chances are slim to non.

It wasn't blurd here , but here we have two versions of the show . We have the American show and the Dutch show with dutch contenders .

Oh I know they would've showed it sans blur filter. I was simply pointing out that they aired it over here as well, just censored. :)

Too bad we live in a weird puritanical society. Otherwise we'd be like the modern countries of the world.

If someone is going to sue, it should be because of the episode where contestants ate buffalo penis.

GINA HUERTA: I just thought, 'Oh, I do not want to put anything vile and disgusting in my mouth.' But I had to block that out because this is a competition and I couldn't be weak. I couldn't be queasy. So I just thought, 'Suck it up and do it.'
:lol :lol :lol :lol
My own mind was fighting me. Here I am trying to swallow this animal's penis, and they're all laughing and mocking and telling me that I can't do it.
:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

If this guy really wanted something other than a healthy settlement, he should be talking to the FCC. The show isn't fit for network television. I'd like to see those parents' groups go after Fear Factor with as much fervor as they did Janet Jackson's nipple.
