it comes with mech warior 3 :P

According to Microsoft's website, their Sidewinder joysticks have reached the end of their lifecycle, so you might want to think twice before buying one as they're much less likely to be updating drivers/fixing bugs with it.

The thread title mentions Logitech, but the other joystick you posted is actually a Saitek, and IMO it looks a bit ugly. Logitech would be a good choice, go have a look at their site and see if you spot a joystick that you like the look of.

well for bf2 you can use almost anything I guess.. Be sure to get one with a 3 way axis.. if you're going to play serious flightsims I would recommend something like saitek x45

mainly for BF2

Corrrect me if I'm wrong, but isn't BF2 a PC FPS that hasn't been ported from a console? In which case, surely you'll want keyboard and mouse to control it with, not a joystick or controller...? Of course, Logitech are still good in that area.. check out the MX1000 for example.

You are wrong

God I hope my Microsoft USB Precision Pro never dies. Simple, comfortable, Shivan-ass-kicking machine, that joystick is.

If you can find one in decent shape off eBay, I'd highly recommend it.

I also own a MS Sidewinder Precision Pro (15-pin game port version) and it's the best joystick I've ever used. The FF version was nice too but it cost $$$ when I was buying.

The next best Joystick ever was the CH Products FlightStick Pro. Awesome.

Stay away from Saitek Joysticks.

I don't like em.

Went out looking for a MS Sidewinder 3D USB today, and came home with a $40 Logitech ripoff. This broke my two rules for purchase: 1- Less than $30 2- Not Logitech

The Saiteks were really shoddy though. They felt hollow and very cheap. The particular Saitek pictured at the start of this thead was completely awful. It had all these "features" supposed to allow you to adjust the stick in all different ways, and I just didn't see the point.

If this Logitech doesn't help me fly the damn Super Cobras any better, it's going right back.

He wants it to fly the planes in the game. And no, it's not a game that's been ported from consoles.

Ohhhhhhhhhh. Okay, that's understandable then.

Yeah, I specified that as there are certain PC games which are console ports and consequently control way better with a controller than with "normal" PC FPS controls.

get a controller
I bought a $10 PS2->USB converter and a PS2 Nyko Airflow EX for $12 at RadioShack. I can fly the planes and the helicopters just fine (although I miss the slide throttle). If you feel more comfortable with a joystick, however, make sure it has a twist rudder (such as the one you posted). You don't need to spend more than $35 on a joystick for BF2.

see.. I have EXACTLY the same of this

107.gif

BUT, I bought it long time ago, and it has a serial port, with a converter to USB

I lost the converter, and this thing doesn't work as good as before without the USB connection

I tried to find the converter, but I think its a custom made

if you guys can help me, I'll really appreciate it

That looks like the one I just bought. Except mine is strictly USB. Mine is also force feedback, don't know whether that one is.

Have you contacted Logitech? they might send an adapter out to you.

edit: will this help? http://www.trianglecables.com/usbtojoydbad.html

I dunno. it says "NOTE! For Analog Controllers only!"

and its written on the Joystick that its Digital

do you think it'll work?

EDIT: wait.. .this thing is $24 lol .. I'd rather buy a new one instead hehe

do BF2 aircraft even have rudder controls?

I nearly bought a PS2 converter pad for this. Might still try it. Any recommended? Or just a PC gampad with analog sticks? Don't have the space for the joystick and it'll only be for BF2 - and maybe some MAME :)

shit.. found it at amazon !!!

thats crazy, I've been looking at all the amazons, and no luck..

EDIT:

I found it through google.. the search won't show the joystick to me!!!

Yes, BF2 planes have rudder controls, and the helos have tail rotor control.

I've used both and settled on a dual stick Logi gamepad. This isn't a flight sim and being able to quickly grab the pad when I hop in, and vise versa toss it on the desk when I hop out, is perfect. And it just seems most comfortable controlling it this way.

.

Nice. Can you do side strafing runs in a helo? The only helo game I've played on PC with a proper 'twist rudder' stick was Team Apache. Not very sim, but really nice, responsive controls.

Will have to get a pad on Friday when I get BF2 and have a practise.
